On the top right of the comment box is "add book/author." If you'd like to talk about a book or author in your message, click on that section and search for your book. Once it's presented, you have the option of providing a link or the book cover. It defaults to "link" and if you want the cover, change the option at the bottom of the search box. Once you've decided, select "add" and the info will appear in your post.

If you want to include the author, select the author tab (the add book/author feature defaults to the book tab), after you've searched for the book. The corresponding author will already be displayed. Select "add" and the author's name will appear (it's hyperlinked to her/his Goodreads author page).

I generally include both. Here's an example of my typical post:

I'm reading Blood Magick by Nora Roberts.
Blood Magick (The Cousins O'Dwyer Trilogy, #3) by Nora Roberts

One of the reasons to use these links is you can go to the book's page and see where it's being discussed in various groups. It's a great way to find groups you may be interested in joining and is a tool for authors to track when their books are being referenced.

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) oh. okay. In shelfari if it did all text would be bold until I did . I think it was u for underline and [strike] to put a line though it. So, I was wondering what to do here. I think I get it. When thay cannot find the book, I guess it just goes in the comment as typed.

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) The OutlawOutlaw

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) I posted Outlaw but it is the wrong author, just to see what would happen. Apparently, the one I'm reading is not in the line up of books. There must be a million books named The Outlaw. lol

Try putting the author's name along with the title in the search box. It should work.

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) I did put the author's name to no avail, but that is okay. You helped me. I know how to make it bold, thanks to you, so I'm good. Instead of [] I used <>. clicking on html is ok made all the difference in the world. By George, you've done it again. :-) I keep forgetting that to hit reply under a comment, puts me in the comment, not as a separte reply. I'll get there.

Dosha, when you reply to a comment, you have to then position your cursor at the bottom of the text that show in the box. Hit your return a couple of times before you start typing your comments.

It should work.

Yay!

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) I think I understand. just go to the comment box in the first place. Do NOT hit reply in the area where the comment is. What does flag* mean? Is that the same as the "like" button on facebook?

No, flag means you want to report it for abuse.

When you want to reply to a specific comment, go there, select reply and a portion of the person's comment will appear in the new comment box. Then position your cursor below the opening text and begin typing your message.

So, my dear friend, am I replying in the correct place now? this looks like it is part of your comment.

It's perfect, just as its intended to be. My comment is in italics...yours is not. That's how you tell the difference.

Well, now. I'm feeling pretty confident. This might not be so bad after all. Happy Reading!
