Shannon | 37 comments Hey all, happy holidays! I've been looking for some biographies lately, or even more broad nonfiction, and I'm having a hard time locating books. Can anyone suggest a website (or anything, really) where I could look through lists of nonfiction books on a particular subject? I often go to the Wikipedia page of the person or event I'm interested in, skip past all the regular stuff, and look through the bibliography at the end, but that doesn't always work well. Is there perhaps a website that has collected lists of nonfiction books on particular subjects? I love going to the library and poking around a section dedicated to whatever I'm looking for, but my small town library often doesn't have many books on obscure subjects. Thanks in advance and please move this post if this is the wrong location for it!

Terri | 19576 comments If I'm looking for non fic, I'll often just go to the Book Depository or Amazon website and punch in the event or person. Say Henry Eight, or War of Roses. It won't show everything, but it will give plenty of options and then you can hunt the titles out in libraries etc..
Amazon is good in that when you click on a title, it will then give you related selections at bottom of page.

happy (happyone) | 2782 comments I'll second that.

Also, there are some groups on GR that specialize in various historical topics, some of them are very active and others not so much. E-mail me if you want some suggestions

Personally I'm reading more history than HF at the moment.

If your local library is in a library SYSTEM [which would be a whole bunch of libraries covering, say, several counties] you could use their online catalog and search. This would give you access to all the books in the library system. You could probably put holds on what you want and they would ship it to your local library for you. There might be a minimal charge--my library system charges .25 per book shipped in for you.
