Are you struggling to keep up with your challenges? Here's a place where we can keep track and encourage each other to squeeze in time to finish up challenges and beat those deadlines.

How it works:
1. I will post links to challenges shortly after they're created, with the end date(s) included in my post.
2. Anyone is free to pipe up about which ones they're struggling with, how many more books they have until they finish, which categories they need help finding books for, etc.
3. Feel free to talk about other challenges we host that go throughout the entire year, as well.
4. Have fun!

If I think of any more "rules," I'll come back and tweak this comment. For now, I think that covers it.

Did you know you can see the ratings of books on your to-be-read list (or any other list) on your bookshelves? Choose the shelf you would like to check. Once it loads, click the "settings" button near the top of the page. Once the drop-down box comes up, select the "num(ber of) ratings" and then click "close" at the bottom right corner of the drop-down box. Once the page adds the number of ratings in the options listed per book, click on that tab (number of ratings) so that the page will reload with the books in order of highest number of ratings to the lowest number of ratings. Let me know if you get stuck. :)

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4436 comments I have not read Kristen Hannah's The Nightingale and it has over 655,000 ratings!!

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 6243 comments Mod
That is a general market book. There may be some content you don't like, so be cautious. That being said, it is a pretty powerful and enjoyable story beyond the negative content, if I'm remembering the right story. (I've read several GM WWII fiction books in the last two or three years, so they do begin to run together a bit.)

I'm glad you're able to find some books with enough ratings for whatever challenge it is you're working on. :)

message 10: by Loraine (new)

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4436 comments Thanks for the heads up on that book. I may read On the Banks of Plum Creek as I haven't read that one in the Little House series.

message 11: by Andrea, Hospitality Coordinator (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 6243 comments Mod
You're welcome. You'll love Plum Creek! I completely adored that one, and it's clean, as you'd expect with a Little House book.

Wonderful!

message 25: by Lila (new)

Lila Diller | 225 comments I finished the April genre mix-up challenge and have now these to finish by the end of June:

Kindle Challenge:
1) Read the last book that you bought on your kindle that you have not yet read- now's the time! - I can't remember which ones I actually paid for and which ones were freebies!
2) Read a book on your kindle that has over 1,000 reviews, either on Amazon or here on Goodreads. I doubt I'll do this one, as I don't read mainstream and haven't bought any classics on Kindle. But I set my goal to only 5 of these 6 so I don't have to do this one if I can't find one.
3) Read a freebie :) I have so many it will be hard to choose!

Scavenger Hunt: need May's clue

Blowing Your Stacks challenge:
I need one more for my Kindle for Review stack and
I need one more for my Bible studies & journals stack.

message 26: by Andrea, Hospitality Coordinator (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 6243 comments Mod
Lila, on the first option, I'm pretty sure any Kindle book would work. I wouldn't have much of a clue which of mine were bought verses freebie either.

You may be surprised at how many Christian books have over 1,000 reviews too. Have you tried using the setting in "My Books" for "num ratings"? Once that setting is on there, if you click it, your books will be ordered from most ratings to least. That ought to help you find a book or two that might work for you. :)

Your list is looking great! Keep up the great work!

message 27: by Lila (new)

Lila Diller | 225 comments Andrea, thanks for the encouragement and the suggestion. Unfortunately, I can't find the "My Books" settings on my Kindle app for Android. I can only filter my downloaded books by recent or by title (A-Z or Z-A). :( Oh, well. I don't have to get that one. Thanks, though. :)

Go to your Want to Read (or whichever) shelf. Touch the word after "Sorted by." Then choose Number of Ratings.

message 29: by Bess (new)

Bess | 62 comments For determining if they are free or paid, go to manage content and click the button, not the checkbox beside the book. It'll popup and show how much $$ the book was when you added it to your stash.

Thanks Andrea I didn't know about this setting. Learn something new every day. Found that two of my books I plan to read in May have over 1,000 reviews!

message 31: by Lila (new)

Lila Diller | 225 comments Andrea, I still can't find it. Are you talking about the Kindle app, my devices on Amazon, or Goodreads?

message 32: by Andrea, Hospitality Coordinator (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 6243 comments Mod
Lila, it’s in the Goodreads desktop version. Is there a button at the bottom of the page that says desktop version? Or try it on a laptop or desktop computer. It’s not available in the app, I think.

If you don’t have access to the desktop version, let me know. I’ll be happy to check your shelf for books with ratings over 1,000 and type up some options for you.

message 33: by AlegnaB † (last edited May 03, 2020 09:19AM) (new)

AlegnaB † (alegnab) | 982 comments I apologize, Lila. I knew Andrea was referring to Goodreads for setting your bookshelf to order the books by most ratings, and I didn't notice that you were trying to do it in the kindle app. So I gave instructions for showing the info in the Goodreads Android app. It can be done in the desktop version of the GR website and in both the iOS and Android apps, but I couldn't find a way to do it in the mobile version of the website.

message 34: by Lila (new)

Lila Diller | 225 comments It took me quite a while to see "num ratings" as a way to sort, but I found it. Thanks, Andrea and AlegnaB. I found a free version of Anne of Green Gables on Kindle and downloaded it. Thanks!

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4436 comments I've been pushing to try and get them done. Finally realized I hadn't ever read Of Mice and Men, and it's a short book. Will get it today from the library, so that takes care of What's in a Name plus a classic book for Past, Present, Catch Up.

message 45: by Bonny (last edited Jun 08, 2020 07:05PM) (new)

Bonny (bonnybonnybeth) | 667 comments CURRENT PROGRESS UPDATE

DONE:
Bible (19/6)- Finished my six remaining books of the Old Testament, and then also read the Gospels and the Pentateuch, plus eight other books, and still going!
Connect the Dots (41/5) - LOL, I'm obsessed with this one!!! I could easily keep doing it all year long!
Classics (11/11) - I did a good job on this one this year.
Listopia (6/6) - Easy since so many of the books I read are already on the lists!
Name (6/6) - Could probably double this if I wanted, but I think I'll just call it done.

ALMOST DONE:
A-Z Titles (21/26) - Still need E, N, Q, U, X.
Biblical Fiction (8/12) - I have the books picked out already.
Non-Fiction (19/25) - I read a lot of history and devotionals!
Around the World (9/12) - I kept my goal low this year.

HALFWAY DONE:
50 States (26/50) - Right on track!
Read & Do (12/25) - This one has been really good for me!
Scavenger (6/12) - On schedule!
Keyword (10/24) - Haven't done June yet.
Audio (10/25) - Lately I've been listening to my audio Bible instead.
Fantasy (2/5) - A slow year for fantasy for me.

FALLING BEHIND:
TBR Stacks (17/48) - My three stacks so far are Biblical Fiction (9/12), Love Inspired (6/12), and Colonial (2/12)
Children (14/61) - I'm not worried, because this one is easy!
Golden Oldies (5/13) - Yikes! This one is hard, and I still have to read eight more this month!!

message 46: by Andrea, Hospitality Coordinator (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 6243 comments Mod
Great job, Bonny! See if you can sneak in a few more of those "falling behind" books in the next three weeks. That might give you a little boost. :)

message 47: by Loraine (new)

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4436 comments WOW Bonnie - you are doing great!

Good idea! I'm sure I could fit in some Love Inspired and Children's books easily enough! Though where I really need to push myself is reading those Golden Oldies that have been on my TBR list for five years! =)

message 49: by Loraine (new)

Loraine (librarydiva) | 4436 comments I think Cheryl needs to turn the Golden Oldies into a year long challenge. Several of us have mentioned that. Cheryl are you listening?

LOL, I agree!! Though I did read one more Golden Oldie last night, so I made slight progress!
