message 1: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (duckiedarling) Does anyone want to read Middlemarch in the summer? I saw a few mention it, but no one has made an official thread.

I’m thinking of starting in June.

message 2: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Elizabeth | 21 comments I’ll join in!! I could do June but if it’s possible could we move it to July? That works better for me, but if not I’ll try to squeeze it in.

message 3: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (duckiedarling) July is fine ^_^

message 6: by Nada (new)

Nada (nadaoq) | 112 comments I'm totally up for this! I actually suggested this very book to my friend for our next buddy read but I've still yet to hear from her. I'd love to join in if you'll have us and I think so would she

message 10: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (duckiedarling) I’m so stoked y’all want to join in! I guess I’ll make a reading schedule so we can stay on track. ^_^

Everyone is good with July, right?

message 17: by laura winters (new)

laura winters | 1 comments I'm in!

message 18: by Brenda (new)

Brenda (gd2brivard) I would like to join! July or even June is good for me. It’s conveniently already on my bookshelf so I’m ready.

message 19: by Chris (new)

Chris Bordeleau | 8 comments I'll definitely join in on this in July! I've been wanting to read this book for some time now, so this is perfect.

message 20: by Hailey (new)

Hailey (omgreading) I'll join for July as well. I've had this on my shelf for a long time!

message 21: by Emma (new)

Emma | 4 comments Hi everyone :) July works for me.

message 22: by Tammie (new)

Tammie I'd love to join this buddy read purely because I think a buddy read would actually hold me accountable for reading it. July works fine for me. Are we going to have a reading schedule?

message 23: by Caro (new)

Caro | 2 comments I want to join for July as well!

message 24: by kim v (new)

kim v (joseygirl) | 3 comments I’d like to join this also please, ive been wanting to read this for quite awhile.

message 25: by Li (new)

Li He English is a language I acquired in adulthood, so I have to read this kind of books (classics) slowly and word by word or comprehension suffers. So audiobooks won't do for me. I know that some native speakers also read some books word by word (especially if they are interested in learning how to write), so I wonder if any of you in this group is going to read it in this manner?

message 26: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Jacobson | 181 comments I read this a few years ago, but have been wanting to revisit it. I’m not 100% sure I’ll join, but it’s very tempting! Just wanted to stop by and say hi and that I’m excited to see so much interest! More reason to read with you!

message 27: by Quan (new)

Quan | 8 comments I’ll join. It’s been on my TBR for years!

thelibraryofalexandra (thelibraryofalexandraa) | 28 comments I’ve been wanting to read this book for ages! I’m not 100% in (because of uni work) but I’ll try! Xx

message 29: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Jacobson | 181 comments Any idea of a schedule? How quickly will you read?

message 30: by Suman (new)

Suman | 5 comments Due to this lockdown situation I have started reading it (apologies). I would say the book should be read in a slow pace. Otherwise very soon one would find it pointless blabbing and loose motivation.

message 31: by Brenda (new)

Brenda (gd2brivard) I was wondering if there was a schedule also ? It is a big one at nearly 800 pages and I’ve got a few other hefty group reads. Also was it planned to be just July, or will it stretch due to the length?
Thanks !!

message 32: by Li (new)

Li He I wouldn't mind postponing this for a few months because there are several group reads/buddy reads happening at the same time.

message 33: by Neele (new)

Neele | 55 comments If this is still happening, I would also be interested. Maybe a nice fall read if y'all want to wait a bit?

message 34: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (duckiedarling) Sorry, I kinda checked out. I’ve been working full time and don’t have a lot of reading time, so if anyone wants to take this over be my guest.

message 35: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Jacobson | 181 comments Who would be in if we started in September?

message 36: by Brenda (new)

Brenda (gd2brivard) I should be able to if it’s spread out. I have a few other big reads going on, so to be fair to myself and previous commitments I could not get through it in a month. Although I could just read at my own pace too. I probably wouldn’t be the only one.

I do want to read it though, It’s been staring at me on my shelf!

message 37: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Jacobson | 181 comments I could also wait until October when 1 or my 2 long reads is over. Whatever we decide is fine. And I agree that taking a few months to read would be good! It’s a fabulous read, but I think it needs to be taken kind of slow.

message 38: by Neele (new)

Neele | 55 comments I agree - slow and steady. Maybe October until mid-december? Although december is usually a busy month for many people, so maybe October and November or September - November?

message 39: by Brenda (new)

Brenda (gd2brivard) I think 2 months is probably good, a group is reading a 950 pager in 11 weeks and it’s not too much. I’m inclined to an October /November read for myself. It works out to about 9 weeks I think.

message 40: by Li (new)

Li He Ashley wrote: "Who would be in if we started in September?"
Me!

message 41: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Jacobson | 181 comments I read it in just under 2 months my first time so around 2 months sounds good to me! I vote for October-November.

message 42: by Neele (new)

Neele | 55 comments Well, it seems to be leaning toward October-November, which is fine with me since W&P ends in September and I like to read other books simultaneously.
Li, are you still with us if we read the book in October and November?

message 43: by Li (new)

Li He Neele wrote: "Li, are you still with us if we read the book..."
Yes!

message 44: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Jacobson | 181 comments Yay! This works perfectly!

message 45: by Brenda (new)

Brenda (gd2brivard) Good to hear. I’d been attempting to read this several times this year, so I’m glad it’s finally going to happen ! I’ve got it down for October /November. 👍🏼👍🏼

message 46: by Neele (new)

Neele | 55 comments Great! Then I'll order my copy and make a note in my calendar. I suggest we get back together here in mid-September to re-confirm and decide on a weekly plan.

message 47: by Brenda (new)

Brenda (gd2brivard) I just wanted to say that I'm going to have to pull out of this read as my schedule has changed. Unfortunately its going to have to sit on the shelf staring at me for just a bit longer.

Hope you all enjoy it though!!

message 48: by Li (new)

Li He I think I will start this book in September with the Catching Up On Classics group because they have this book for group read in September and I will be finishing my current read (War and Peace) in late August. This is the link to that group read page: https://www.goodreads.com/group/show_...

I expect to finish War & Peace today or tomorrow, just 40 pages left. So I can definitely start Middlemarch in September!

message 50: by Neele (new)

Neele | 55 comments Hi! I might join you over at the group you linked to Li, but I'm a bit behind on War and Peace, and another group starts A Tale of Two Cities next week....So we'll see how that goes :)
