Don't you love it Lee? I will be happy to be seeing you again! :) lol

message 7: by Lee (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lee (kiwifirst) Hi Maggie. It has been a while since we group read eh?

message 8: by Lee (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lee (kiwifirst) Are we commenting on the early chapters in this thread? Or is their new threads opening up?

message 9: by Lee (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lee (kiwifirst) Another question. Can we post comments relating the MBotF? Because almost all discussions on the characters we know will most likely be spoilers for the Malazan series.

Brenda ╰☆╮ (brnda) | 1494 comments This thread is more for initial impressions.
:)
I'll open a spoiler thread, but if you talk about other books, I suggest spoiler tags.

Edit: Lately, we have just had two threads, for our reads.
If you need more to stay on track, let me know and we can work on that.

message 11: by Niamh (new) - added it

Niamh I'm in. Booked it from the Library so hopefully will have it by the weekend. Looking forward to it! :)

Maggie K | 282 comments so I am only as far as the first chapter, but I love how we already sense all the angst this boy has....It will be interesting to see Draconus' power.

I think it would be really great if it was possible to dicuss the book as you read - so that you don't neccesarily have to wait until you have finished the whole thing (as you don't want anything spoiled).

I see that it is divided into four(?) parts, so maybe a thread for each part? If anyone else would be up for that of course..

I haven't participated in group reads since two years ago or so, so I don't know how active the dicussions are.

We can definitely do that Eli. I'm open to more discussion when the group is.
;)

Roy | 14 comments Will definitely give this a read.

message 16: by Amy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Amy Sanderson | 129 comments I'm actually halfway through already, as I knew I wasn't going to get through an entire novel of this length in December! Really enjoying it so far and looking forward to seeing everyone's comments. The only other Malazan book I've read is Gardens of the Moon, and that was a few years ago, so I'm coming to Forge of Darkness as a bit of a newbie.

message 17: by Lee (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lee (kiwifirst) Reading Amy's comments make me realise I will need to use a lot of spoiler tags :)

Just finished chapter two and there is much to discuss.

message 18: by Alex (new) - rated it 5 stars

Alex Will re-read this after I finish my current book. Can't wait. Loved it the first time, but Erikson has a way of becoming better when re-read.

message 19: by Lee (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lee (kiwifirst) Hi Brenda,
I wouldn't mind another thread as i have some discussion points.

By the end of chapter two I think you can assume that this book is going to be more politically based than the MBotF.

We are obviously hundreds of thousands of years in the past, did you notice this:

From Arathan;

Besides, there was little of Tiste blood in him – the fair skin or tall frame, and his eyes, while dark, lacked the mercurial ambivalence of the pure-born.

We are used to three color Tiste, white, grey and black. The fact that he calls Tiste normally tall and fair skin means that they are all Liosan or there is only one Tiste at this stage. Given that they are calling themselves Tiste it seems safe to assume that this is set before they split into three different peoples.

:)
Here's the one for the first part,https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/....

message 21: by Stuart (new)

Stuart (asfus) | 56 comments Will probably read

Ellen Hiller (ellenhiller) It has taken a little while to get into the book for me, so many characters and storylines added at once.
However now I am really enjoying it.

Heh yes, I'm ready for a few spoilers to crop up. I've been meaning to read the MBotF for a few years but somehow never got round to it. Will have to change that soon!

message 24: by Rebecka (new) - added it

Rebecka (hoppeduponbooks) Just bought the book today so I'm looking foward to start reading it now :)

message 25: by Lee (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lee (kiwifirst) Amy, I wouldn't worry too much. The Malazan series is so big that a few points of knowledge here of there will not affect your read. I am sure people will spoiler tag major spoilers though.

I read the series twice within 3 years and found many new things on the second read. Reading a second time is working with a pretty big spoiler ;)
