Alicia Does anyone have any recommendations for fantasy books where the main character is a person of color? Read Aurora Rising, but it was more Sci-Fi.

I liked American Gods, but the MC is pretty silent, and is more UF...
Same with Mercy Thompson being Native American, but UF...

I've heard great things about NK Jemisin, and read her Broken Earth series, which is further down the list... her Inheritance series is near the top of the list, but I haven't read it yet...

Broken Earth starts off as fantasy, and reveals more sci-fi/steampunk elements as the trilogy progresses...

The Fifth Season
The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms

Virginie | 6109 comments Nice list, Iain!

On the top of my head:

- Native-American MC: Trail of Lightning (Urban Fantasy)

- Asian MC: Empire of Sand (India inspired? If I remember right), In the Vanishers’ Palace (Vietnam inspired), The Poppy War (Sino-Japanese war inspired)

- Black MC: Wheel of the Infinite (and City of Bones by the same author to a certain extent, I remember one of the duo MC being described as darker skined, though discrimination came more from the fact he's not exactly human :p), Dread Nation (YA SF/Zombie apo), Binti (YA SF), Children of Blood and Bone (YA)

There's a lot of POC main characters in YA these days, due to the #ownvoice movement. Can't give you more than the three above since I'm not a big YA reader.
