2020 Chit Chat - Anything goes

Wow! How huge?

We actually got a notice from our rights department that we need to write out the full date on our notes. I fail to understand why, because we keep all our notes on our computer system which automatically fills in the entire date. There is no way you CAN put in a partial date like 1/1/20. And if I put a note in the system and sign it, I'm the only person on the planet who can go back in and alter it anyway. What am I going to do, lie and say I saw the client last year instead of this year? When I'm the one who gets in trouble by not writing my notes with 24 hours of the meeting?

But to answer Koren's question, I have a similar goal of reading up and deciding whether to keep some of the books stacked on the floor, and not just the TC ones, either.

I found 3 more. I added one, that you already had on other shelves: My Son's Execution.
But it won't let me add this one: Trial of Craig and Bentley edited by H. Montgomery Hyde and published in 1954. Here is a link to it on Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...
The third one isn't strictly 'just' about Craig and Bentley, so, I'll leave it up to your esteemed wisdom as to whether it belongs on this shelf, or not. Hanged - and Innocent? by R.T. Paget and Sydney Silverman published in 1953. Here is a link to it on Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...

I seriously doubt that I'm more detail oriented than you! ... lol I just like helping out, 'cause you work so hard for this group. It is much appreciated.

Oh, that could be a lot worse.
*side-eye at the coworker who has lost borrowing privileges at 4 different libraries because she always loses the books*

I was reminded of this when I was reading another discussion about Foodie books.
I was really excited to find out there is a Target easier to get to than the one in Harlem. Before I could get there, I found out there was a fire in the basement.

What have you found inserted in the pages of used books you have purchased? Also, have you seen any interesting notations?
The review I read said, "This book contains graphic descriptions of horrific crimes, photos of dead bodies at crime scenes, plus a lot of information that would be quite useful to killers wanting to fool those hunting them.
That being said, I find it slightly disturbing that my copy of this book, which has been so well-read that it is falling to pieces, has come through inter-library loan from my local prison. My county doesn't have any other copies of this book.
Some helpful notations have been added by a previous reader. In particular, every time he (or she) considers that the police have had a lucky break in a case, "LUCK" is noted in the margin. Thank you, mystery reader, that significantly clarifies matters. I'm not sure what the distinction is between the double-lines-down-the-side and the crosses-in-the-margin, and maybe I don't want to know. Many pages appear to have been attacked by pasta sauce, but I feel that this does not reflect any kind of scholarly annotation.
Now, would I get reading experiences of this kind if I bought all my books pristine, or downloaded them onto my hygienic Kindle? I think not.
PS. This book's interesting antecedence fails to beat the book I once bought second-hand, called "How Brains Work". This contained, like pressed flowers between its pages, about 20 sheets of tinfoil that had apparently been used to smoke drugs off - blackened underneath, with residues of presumably heroin on the top."

Same here, Fishface. I think the most interesting thing I've found was two photos of a couple at their high school prom ... in 1973 and 1974. I just found these this year. :)

Maybe we could start a GoFundMe account.
I bought a book about prison riots and there was a police related form in it. I don't remember what it was, some sort of application I think.

Whoever Fights Monsters: My Twenty Years Tracking Serial Killers for the FBI"
A book on profiling? Well it's shoe-leather-consuming investigation that solves those crimes, not profiles. But luck does play a role...

'The Stand' seems to be having a resurgence, but in my case, the disease is not Captain Trips, it's Captain No-Trips, as my vacation to Spain has been nixed in no uncertain terms. Getting my money back, now that's a different story. I'm probably going to end up being out quite a chunk of change since I can't even get in contact with some of my reservation services.
Weather is nice enough to hike tomorrow, but after that it looks like more snow. Already getting Computer Eyeball Strain.

From Eric Hunley's description for the interview: "Jerri Williams is a retired FBI Agent, author, and she is also the host of the excellent FBI Retired Case File Review podcast. Williams served 26 years as a Special Agent with the FBI, during her career her investigations were mainly focused on economic crimes. In her most famous case she investigated were a $350 million Ponzi scheme that targeted nonprofit organizations and high-profile philanthropists. The Ponzi scheme used an international advanced-fee scam, and a business-to-business telemarketing fraud that also included a long-term undercover operation.
The international advance fee scam case she conducted resulted in a 14 year prison sentence and also led to the forfeiture of the subject’s residence. Her major investigation of this business to business telemarketing fraud, resulted in 16 search warrants, 25 convictions, and also led to numerous multi-year prison terms. Jerri has also received numerous awards throughout her career, that include four United States Attorney Awards for Distinguished Service. She was appointed as the spokesperson for the Philadelphia Division of the FBI, near the end of her career."
