Mariel Moore (mskillett) | 1 comments Chapter 11 is the height of the rising action as well as the most skillfully written chapter in this book. After Gene sees Leper he is changed. The literal loss of innocence is symbolized through Leper. He is showing what the war can do and it is brought to the young men of Devon. Finny, who had been denying war, has to come to terms that he cannot participate in this and it is happening. Both Brinker and Finny act differently after hearing Leper's stories. They realize the severity of war, even when not over seas.
