Anirudh This is a thread dedicated to leisurely reading of classic books. Since Classics rarely get picked in botm this thread will focus on selecting a classic suggested by members and having a group read. All are invited to participate in the reading and discuss.

Have Fun!

P.S- Anyone wants to suggest a good classic to start the thread with?

I have been planning to read it since last month but then there were so many challenges ...I couldn't fit it in anywhere... So I thought no matter what I'll read this month

Actually , I didn't like it much. It was okay in a gothic romance sort of way. The hero was too overbearing. I am allergic to the tall, dark, handsome , brooding -with- hidden -secrets types

Purvika (violetstygian) | 2463 comments Polls idea seem good..... That way no one will sulk their book wasn't chosen :P

message 24: by Anirudh (new)

Anirudh Polls are good as long as people actually read after voting :-P

message 27: by Misha (new)

Misha (itz_mie) Rebecca was quite boring for me, Crime & Punishment was a great one. I was planning to read The Name of the Rose this month.

message 28: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 2936 comments @Misha , Name of the Rose movie was superb , but the book was very dry. I couldn't get past the first few pages.

message 29: by Misha (new)

Misha (itz_mie) @Smitha this is my second & final attempt :-! :-!

Zaara Wow, cool thread start Ani...I was just thinking along the same lines....

message 41: by Ahtims (new)

~~Poulomi Sylphrena Tonk$~~ | 5979 comments Baby Mod will be busy for a few days, Anirudh. Exams maybe. Or she would've made her appearance in the 2nd post itself! :D

message 47: by Anirudh (new)

Anirudh Okay :-) I guess more people will appear and suggest books

message 48: by Zaara (new)

Zaara Middlemarch or Vanity Fair

message 49: by IShita (new)

IShita I saw the name and I just had to visit!! Great thread for a group that rarely read classics.

Polo, lol, you overestimate me at times :P

Anywho, I've been planning on Rebecca too. But I see it isn't getting a lot of great reviews on the thread so maybe ill do that one later. Dorian was a very good read but wasn't one of my bests. Some others I've been meaning to read are-
•Monte Cristo
•Mr. Hyde and Dr. Jekyll
•Christmas Carol
•The Hidden Hand
•David Copperfield
And of course, any Shakespeare! Or Voltaire if one wants a little philosophy too.

Meanwhile, I'm also reading Ulysses in my classics group but am only 2 episodes in if anyone wants to join. Also, I'm always up for another re-read of the Wuthering Heights. It's absolutely marvelous, that book! Or if anyone wants to read a classic crime, I'm gonna continue the Philo Vance series by SS Van Dine. I'm currently reading the first book- The Benson Murder Case. It's brilliant! Vance is by far the most fascinating, and at the same time amusing, character I've read. I'll also be reading The Man Who Knew Too Much by GK Chesterson soon after my exams. Anyone who wants to join me for one of these is most welcome :)

There she is. :D
I was thinking of dropping the link at your devious thread. Where were you all this while? :D
And I got David Copperfield on my list too. Me and Gehna were planning to BR it soon. We could do it together, though it might be a bit later. :)
