This is the story of a woman who, throughout her life, is visited by a mysterious man who shows up when she is in danger and saves her. She doesn't know who the man is, where he comes from, or why he is protecting her. I liked this book. The first half is the the story of the woman's life. It was a bit slower than the second half, but I enjoyed the pace. We learn a lot about Laura, the main character, and the people in her life. We see her in danger and we see the man appear to save her. In the second half, the action begins. I really appreciated the time given to getting to know the people in Laura's life. Even the people around Laura are fully developed and interesting characters. I do wish I had a better feel for who the mysterious man was, but the nature of the story is that he is mysterious and we don't know much about him. Overall, if you are looking for a mysterious thriller and don't mind a little science fiction this is a good book for you.

Nicole | 681 comments I was a huge Koontz fan back in high school and, as a result, have a bookshelf full of his books. Apparently I've read this one and don't remember it - though it does fall in the realm of his older works that I tended to enjoy more for their spooky factor.

If you're looking to pick up anymore of his, I highly suggest The Taking, Tick Tock, or False Memory - I could suggest more but those immediately come to mind. :)

So glad you liked this one!
