After looking into it more it appears this book, chosen for it's winter theme, is also a movie! Or rather, it will be. The movie is still in the planning stages, but it sounds like it was supposed to come out in 2014, but got pushed back? I was confused by a lot of what I was reading about the book, but in any case it sounds like a good read for sure! I look forward to reading it, and hope it will make it to the big screen soon enough!

I just got the book from the library and I am excited to read it! Not sure if it is quite "my kind of book" but sounds interesting all the same! :)

"Surrounded by enemies, the once-great nation of Ravka has been torn in two by the Shadow Fold, a swath of near impenetrable darkness crawling with monsters who feast on human flesh. Now its fate may rest on the shoulders of one lonely refugee.

Alina Starkov has never been good at anything. But when her regiment is attacked on the Fold and her best friend is brutally injured, Alina reveals a dormant power that saves his life—a power that could be the key to setting her war-ravaged country free. Wrenched from everything she knows, Alina is whisked away to the royal court to be trained as a member of the Grisha, the magical elite led by the mysterious Darkling.

Yet nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. With darkness looming and an entire kingdom depending on her untamed power, Alina will have to confront the secrets of the Grisha . . . and the secrets of her heart."

Jennifer (featherlashes) This is a favorite trilogy of mine. Each book gets better and better, so if you like this first book at all then keep reading! Also, the middle book is NOT filler, as often happens in young adult trilogies. Love this author! Had no idea it was becoming a movie!!

That's good to know about the second book. I HATE it when the middle book is just there sine apparently ALL books have to be trilogies now...ugh!

I only have it from the library for a little bit longer and still am stuck not reading the three I am already working on so this might be on my list to read at the start of next year.

Becca R | 2 comments I loved these books and agree with Jennifer, each one gets better. Looking forward to the movie!!

I was finishing up a few other books, but now I am so excited to finally start Shadow and Bone!

If you have already watched the show: do I need to read any of the other books before watching? I've heard other of the authors series are also involved in the show.

Valen (Taylor's Version) (valenncarbone) No, you don’t really need to read other books. The show changed the whole plot of six of crows but kept the shadow and bone one.
