Jeane (pinkbookdragon) | 323 comments Sorry for the weird title of this thread but I was just reading a discussion question:

How do the actions of Napoleon (a pig), Boxer (a horse), Benjamin (a donkey) and the dogs and sheep reflect the traits normally associated with the animal? Do your feel that Orwell purposely chose certain types of animals to assume certain roles?

GW I'm sorry but this discussion sounds a little like a classroom. I read it, didn't like it and the book does not matter. It's a classic but not a good one in my opinion.

Dude Gary, you are not wrong, I tried to flesh the questions out so there was something to answer as people read the book. I got the question on some discussion website for the book.

But at the same time, if you don't like it then think of your owe, post a thread for the book if you want, that's better than just bitching about how someone else starts a thread.

I'm sorry that you didn't like the book, that sucks for you, but you might want to say, "in my opinion the book doesn't matter," rather than egotistically saying "the book does not matter" like your word is the last. Tell me how I can rephrase the discussion thread to better suit your liking or make your own.

Travis (travistousant) I'm about half done. I do think the roles of the animals were specific. I may come back for more detail later but the quick short answer. Look at the donkey and the rather glum outlook on life. Instantly I thought of Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh which if you think about it the roles of those animals were not all thay different than in this book.

Alana (alanasbooks) | 208 comments It's been such a long time since I read this that I honestly don't remember the actions of the individual actions beyond the pigs, but I think it's a good question. Did Orwell use the associated traits of these animals to get a point across, or just pick animals one would actually find on a farm?
