Happy December, Retro Readers!

For this month’s Retro Read, we are going with a contemporary classic: Trail of Secrets by Eileen Goudge. Ellie Nightingale is a psychologist who is still haunted by her baby’s kidnapping twenty-three years ago. In the 1970s, a former equestrienne’s crumbling life is saved when her husband brings home an abandoned infant they can claim as their baby. Skyler Sutton is their child: a champion equestrienne from wealthy Connecticut who has it all, until she ends up pregnant. Her boyfriend, however, knows a therapist who wants a baby more than anything in the world…

Trail of Secrets by Eileen Goudge

Eileen Goudge is an expert at creating parallel storylines, and weaving in and out of them seamlessly. Then some how, amazingly, she ties everything together so perfectly at the end. There is understanding in her writing, with truly beautiful and developed characters.

Here are what some said of Trail of Secrets:

“Eileen Goudge writes like a house on fire, creating characters you come to love and hate to leave.” —Nora Roberts

“Goudge hits the mark.” —Kirkus Reviews

“A gifted writer with an eye for telling detail.” —Chicago Tribune

“A walloping novel . . . Satisfying.” —New York Daily News

I really hope you enjoy this month’s choice and can't wait to hear what you all think. I'll be posting some questions shortly!

This book would make an excellent book discussion read. Very emotional and thought provoking.

Kari | 2 comments I think I'm in the minority. I had a hard time getting into the book. I think it just wasn't for me.
