What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

I read book ONE back in 2004-2005.
The book is part of a series. I remember that the main protagonist was a pilot piloting a spaceship. Maybe he was piloting this ship for the government? Not sure.
I remember a scene where he was in a bar and the bartender had a robotic arm. I think he was thinking about how dangerous it was to be enhanced or that he didn’t agree with humans enhancing themselves. The specific are hazy.
He lives on a planet that is more naturalistic a lot less technology.
There’s a virus that starts spreading that brings the dead back to life. Or the virus turns people into the undead. I know this is pretty bare bones, but that’s all I can remember.
