Oha, Erikson's typical foreshadowing. But then again the very next sentence is all about Draconus again. It'll be interesting to see whether there's more to Arathan than just to tell us Draconus' story from his POV.
----
I'm so going to miss the dialogs between Sagander and Arathan.
----
First signs of a convergence? T'riss and now Grizzin Farl (mate to Kilmandaros, very interesting because major The Crippled God spoiler: (view spoiler) ) are heading towards Kharkanas.

Grizzin Farl is now the first Thel Akai we meet. I wonder what their society will be at this point.
Sagander is a douche, and deserves it. Everyone is awful to Arathan and he just takes it.
He's a better son/student than Draconus/Sagander deserve.

Anyhow.. Page 126... Finally! First piece of action since the start of this book!!! Got me super excited and Arathan is growing to be a deep person with a unique character and point of view. Hellar, you are no warhorse. You are a soul-mate!
Erikson has a thing for horses. In Malazan we met a guy who had his face bitten off by a Gral horse. Then on this there was a guy with his arm bitten off and now leg stamping boot scooting war horses.
Grizen Farls mate is Kilmandaros, which is really interesting. Good point in your spoiler David, but also consider this. (view spoiler)

" did not know what ?"
" that love needs a cause."
2nd hit after the question at the household !! Go Arathan !!!

I highlighted that same spot Jassem.
I meant to bring that up, just to clarify my own thinking:
So Arathan stopped his father dead by telling him he loved him/saying he didn't know he needed a specific cause to love his father?
Draconus was shocked at the idea, and Arathan was dumbfounded at his father's shock.
Or am I off here?

It seems as though Erikson is getting ready to upset the status quo in this world from the discussion between Sagander and Arathan about weakness then the follow up between Draconus and Sagander on the same subject, the warhorse scenes and now this small spot concerning love.
It's obvious Draconus has underestimated Arathan but I also think Arathan underestimates himself as well.
Oh for sure. Everyone underestimates Arathan at this point, and he's probably top of that list.
Then again I don't know now you can expect someone to have any self confidence when you grow up being surrounded by people who tell you that you're shit.

Yes, that was one of those moments of pure magic that SE is so good at!

This is 2nd time (I think) that Aratham almost drowning has been mentioned. It seems like something is there, but I don't know what.
Aratham reminds me of someone from the original series, but I'm not sure who. Anyone else feel that?
So that old man punches really hard, huh? Seemed a little unrealistic, even with helm-gate.
As to the issues of Aratham getting pity-sex... Is it implied in this world that a lord can command his subordinates to do anything he wants... I know he doesn't command her to do so, but that implies he could.
I really like it when SE follows characters for awhile (unless they are shake or snake).

So true. With Sagander as your tutor, an inferiority complex is almost a given.

Nope, he's a "new" character.

Ha, found him!

You're probably thinking of David Sven (one of the moderators). He's no longer active on goodreads and didn't participate in this read.
