shaun melville Hi I have recently read The Weird: A compendium of strange and dark stories and loved it! especially The other side of the mountain by Michel Bernanos, possibly my most favorit short storey ever. Can anyone recommend any similar books?

Philipp For a hostile world that is impossible to understand, try Stanislaw Lem, especially "Solaris" (very different from the two movies!). It's really hard to recommend something similar to "The Other Side Of The Mountain", it's so unique.

For more strange, try Kobo Abe, especially "The Box Man" and "The Woman In The Dunes". I feel like Haruki Murakami takes a lot from Abe: stories that, on the surface, don't make much sense and are hard to interpret, but give off this unsettling vibe.

For horror short stories, try Laird Barron's "The Imago Sequence and other stories" or Thomas Ligotti's "Teatro Grottesco". I think that Stephen King's short stories are much better than his novels, try the collection "Skeleton Crew". Clive Barker's six "Books Of Blood" are fun, too.

For "weird horror", read Banks' The Wasp Factory.

That's all I can think of right now!
