It looks like they added a new character "Caleb." I am also a little concerned that they made Mr. Loomis black. I feel like they don't need to inadvertently make a race statement with the movie as well....

My thoughts exactly! They are just taking the "end of world but people are alive in this cool valley" idea and making it a love story.... It is literally the Giver all over again. I am sick of Hollywood trying to make books something they are not. They are because of what they are, and do not need added characters and plot lines for people to want to watch it!! UGH!
I most only read YA, but I agree that a LOT of them do not need to be movies. I like when I find one that is not with the norm. If it is a YA romance I usually don't even give it a go unless there is a really good back story going on or epic something happened as well. Like in Hunger Games. Without the love story it is still a good story!
With 3 people in Z it is totally going to change EVERYTHING! I mean....the whole dynamic between them as Ann tried to plan a future while he is sick and then understands that it is not an option thanks to his really personality.... It will wreck the whole thing with another person thrown in there just so there is the drama of a love story....The only way I can see it working is if Ann is wanting to go find this Caleb person, and thinks he is alive somehow....so not until the end can she get to him? I don't know.....

I don't know if I will see it based on this news... I still have not seen The Giver since I knew how much they changed the book. It will be easier to decide once the first real trailer comes out and it's easier to tell just what they did to it all....
I got into YA about 6 years ago when I read Percy Jackson. I wished YA was a thing when I actually was a young adult. It's still just as good for actual adults, but the genre is amazing, and I wished I would have had it in high school and even college!

I just finished re-reading this story for the first time since middle school. I was shocked to think of me reading this book that young...but ya know...90's baby! haha
Well, then I looked online and was SO HAPPY to see it was about to be made into a movie.....until I saw they were trying to make it into a LOVE TRIANGLE!?!??!? What the heck!!!?????!?!!
Okay...I am clearly a little too upset about this right now....anyone else have any thoughts?!
