I have a feeling that you might not like it. Most people complain that nothing much happens and the main guy Kvothe just keeps boasting about himself (but who's going to talk shit about oneself anyway :) ). Also I've seen some complaints about the lack of strong female characters. However, the writing itself is beautiful and the world-building is interesting.
I personally loved it. It was a very "chill" read and it actually felt like reading someone's life story. I still have to read the second book though. Kind of happy that I waited this long before diving into these books because now I'm not pissed off like everyone else who are forced to wait for the 3rd book for almost 10 years and counting :)
I also loved this series. Im not sure if emily will like it- its more of a slow burn. But it was so well crafted, i can see the care he put into the story and how he thought hard about every single sentence. How could anyone not appreciate it? The cool cultures, the complexity of all the magic systems, the money systems.... just wow. And his foreshadowing! U have to read it more than once to pickup everything. That makes speculating about this series VERY fun.
