CJ (thebookdream) | 6 comments Does anyone know if there are groups anywhere for swapping Trek books? They are not very popular on my library system. I reeeeaaaaalllly want to read the new ones, but they are very expensive and take up space. Swapping sounds like a decent answer to the money and space issue. Anyone know of a group doing this?

Brandon Harbeke | 33 comments Would any of your libraries participate in the interlibrary loan (ILL) system? Another possible library answer is the "Suggest a Purchase" option that I see on most of my local city library websites. The only way the Trek books can become popular in your area is to make it known that people want to read them.

Beyond that, I don't really know of any groups for swaps. You might get lucky with Craigslist or a local Meetup group of sci-fi fans. Anything not local will run into shipping costs, and then you are not saving any money with the swap.

Bill | 16 comments Inter-library Loan is a good way to get books you'd not normally have easy access to. Also try downloading e-books through your library system. It's free & I get anywhere from 1-3 weeks to burrow an e-book. I've checked out the New York Public Library & they have newer Star Trek, but the older novels aren't as widely available.

CJ (thebookdream) | 6 comments I requested two Star Trek books at my library but since no one else is checking them out really they are not interested in buying anymore. Poor use of funds and space. Mostly older novels are available in my library system on inter-library loan and nothing on ebook at all. Star Wars is very popular here, but not so much Star Trek novels.

E.M. Jeanmougin | 3 comments A lot (but not all) kindle books have a loan option where if you own the book you can loan it to someone for 14 days, as long as you have their email. I only own 1 Star Trek book on Kindle (I,Q) and I haven't tried to find any of the new ones there yet, but if you know someone who has, maybe they could loan you their kindle edition. I've never tried to loan out my copy of I,Q so I'm not sure if it'd work for a book like that or not.

Gene Coatney (mountainmangeno) | 1 comments If your library uses Hoopla you can set up a free account and download books for 2 weeks. They have a pretty good selection of Trek books on there.

Christa, I just learned of a webpage called BookMooch, see http://bookmooch.com This appears to be what you are looking for, however I've done no research other than to view the homepage, take a look.

Cheryl (cherylllr) | 20 comments I'm to inherit two 'banker's boxes' of books soonish. Mostly older (lots of Next Gen. esp.) and would be glad to get them to a good home if anyone is sufficiently interested to encourage me to list them. However, I'm not sure exactly when I'll get my hands on them, likely not until Christmas season or even next spring (and then I'll likely want to read at least some of them, too).
