It mentions the book What My Sister Remembered by Marilyn Sachs, published in 1992.

The plot and the cover match your description so hopefully this is it!
Two sisters (don’t remember how their parents passed) meet up and have a strained relationship because they don’t meet often. They are both in their teens. The younger sister has been adopted by their aunt and uncle. The older sister has been adopted by a wealthy couple. They spend a stretch of time together (it was not a very long time, but I don’t remember if it was only a day or up to a few weeks).
There was absolutely no romance.
The title of the copy I had was of two girls. One sitting in a chair and the standing behind her. The colors were not very vivid, everything looked very mellow.
From what I remember, the story itself was also pretty mellow. It was not action-packed or any kind of thriller or mystery. I don’t remember the language of the book to be young-adult-styled (if that is a thing), but it had to have been an easy read for me to pick it up and understand it at the age of 7-10.
I read the book 8-11 years ago. Wasn’t a very big book both in size and girth. It could’ve have been published then, or even in the 90s since I remember it was in my house as long as I could remember (just disappeared some day).
Also, I’ve searched online and couldn’t find it, so it doesn’t seem to be a book with any kind of popularity or following.
