This discussion is due to start tomorrow, so for now this is just a quick introduction.

Tatyana Tolstaya "is a Russian writer, TV host, publicist, novelist, and essayist from the Tolstoy family, known for her fiction and "acerbic essays on contemporary Russian life" (Wikipedia).

This book is a recent collection of her later stories, and covers a wide range of places and subject matter, with stories set in Russia, America and Western Europe, many of which read like memoirs.

I hope some of you will join this discussion - I found this book a very enjoyable and interesting read.

message 2: by Sam (new) - rated it 3 stars

Sam | 440 comments I'll second Hugh that this is an enjoyable and interesting anthology. I read this last year but will probably reread some stories during this discussion. I am impressed with how long some of the stories have stayed with me and I find myself missing Tolstaya 's humor. I think this was a good choice and members will enjoy it.

Hi, I am new to this group and actually joined it when I saw that this book is one of the selections for this month. (And I look forward to reading Spring next month.) Tolstaya's collection has been on my TBR list for too long and it motivated me to finally read it. I am so glad I did it and want to join in the praise. One of the rare books that, right upon reading it, I went back to re-read a couple of stories to my partner. Now he is reading it!

I will open the spoiler thread(s) tomorrow. I'm not sure whether we should split it and if not how to subdivide the discussion.

Mark | 496 comments Just picked it up from the library, and looking forward to it.

Mark | 496 comments Somehow, the link to the Aetherial Worlds discussion on the page:

..is replaced by a link to Commonwealth. Can someone fix this?

Thanks for pointing that out Mark - it should be fixed now. I linked the wrong discussion folder to the bookshelf record.
