Betsy (ebburtis) | 1291 comments As we near the start of a new year, tell us about your new year reading resolutions. Do you give yourself or take part in a reading challenge for the year? Is there that one book that's been languishing on your TBR list you've promised yourself you'll get to this coming year?

Linda | 1693 comments I've had several books on my presently reading list for several years I'd like to polish off, but there's always new books being published.

I will have read more than 100 books by the end of the year. I've never done that before. I don't know how many more I'd be able to read. (Although I did notice I'm watching less and less TV - and now that Colbert won't be on...)

message 3: by LynnB (new)

LynnB I'm in another group with a mini-challenge each year to read the 10 books that have been longest on your Goodreads to-read list. This year I read 7 of the 10, but next year I hope to get all 10 on my updated list read!! And I'm starting with the 3 that didn't get read this year because, honestly, they were on the list the year before that, too. (Maybe that means I should delete them from my TBR??) I've done it a few years and it helps me work through some books I've almost forgotten about reading.

Other than that, I just want to enjoy my reading and work on a few fun challenges.

"LIKE"

I wish there were a "LIKE" button on Goodreads, too. I'm always looking for one because sometimes that's all the comment I want to make, but I would like to make it!

Agreed! There is a like button for other people's reviews but not in the discussion boards for some reason.

Betsy (ebburtis) | 1291 comments Would anyone like to do some sort of reading challenge for 2015 in this group? The only reason challenge I've done was starting Ann Kingman's War & Peace challenge. I never finished, but I don't feel too bad because I don't think she did either!

Sera | 1325 comments What is that one about Betsy? I am starting War & Peace January 1.

Sera | 1325 comments Lynn, I do a TBRS challenge every year, too, and never make it through the entire list. I average about half to 2/3. I keep trying with the rest because I do believe that each will get read in its due time.

Ann is ne of the hosts of the Books n the Night Stand podcast. I think she started the challenge maybe as long as two years ago. The group finished it by breakng it into chunks. They had a Facebook group but I don't know if it is still accessible.

Yes, it is still accessible and they have read SEVERAL books since that one. I can supply a list if someone wants it. Or the facebook page is titled Classics/impossible Reading Group

message 12: by Teresa (new)

Teresa My reading resolutions are to try different genres and to write down beautiful quotes from books as I read them. Sometimes there is a line in a book that I love that strikes a chord with me and I want to remember them long after I have finished reading a book. I am recording these on Goodreads now.

I like that, Teresa. I've been trying to be more mindful of quotes that stir me.

Betsy (ebburtis) | 1291 comments My resolution is to clear out my "currently reading" list here. I have several on there that I just need to finish.

Nancy Motto | 450 comments Book Riot has a Read Harder Challenge that I'm going to do. It's twenty four different categories. The only
category I didn't have among my own books was Graphic novel or one by an indigenous author. I think it's going to fun, a nice way to get me to step out of my reading box a bit. Also if anyone is looking for another way to shake up their reading, there is a Rory Gilmore challenge to read all the books Rory read over the years on Gilmore Girls. (something like 336 bks)

Betsy (ebburtis) | 1291 comments We're well into October, and it seemed like a good time to check in on the reading resolutions. I was going to try to clear my "currently reading" list and haven't achieved it. I didn't set this as a resolution, but I have exceeded my number of books read last year and still have a couple months to go. How's everyone else doing?

I had decided to read all the books that are sitting on bookshelves all over my house. I've made a dent, but it's slow going. I resolved not to borrow books from the library until I finished my books. I do still check out audio books from the library but it's killing me not checking out regular books. Definitely an incentive to get thru my stuff. I also put 100 Books as my Goodreads goal. might be a bit of a reach, I'm afraid. Oh we'll, the fun is in the trying.

message 18: by Sera (new)

Sera | 1325 comments I did horribly on my reading goals for the year but in fairness to myself, I did change jobs and relocate, which certainly had an impact on my lack of success. We'll try again next year!
