The Wild Robot - Peter Brown

The Wild Robot is a middle grade book about a robot whose cargo ship sinks in a hurricane. The robot, Roz, is the only robot (on a ship full of robots) to survive the disaster. She awakens on an island in the middle of the ocean. Although she seems to be alone, soon she discovers that the island is full of wildlife. Unfortunately, most of the animals on the island are afraid of the big, metallic monster. Roz must find away to survive on the island and make a life for herself.

This was a very sweet story. I liked all of the animal characters and how they and Roz evolved as the story continued. It would be an excellent book to read aloud to children. I was a bit sad that my kids are all a bit too old for it, although my youngest might enjoy reading it to himself. I am interested in reading the second book about Roz because I was interested in the hints we are given about the world beyond the island.

Yes! Finally someone else who has read this lovely book! The relationship between Roz and Brightbill was really sweet.

I recently read the sequel, which was also cute, if not quite as charming as the first.

Well, I am myself am glad to see the Robot was a "she"! 😊

I read both of these to my seven-year-old son recently and we both really liked them - I thought they were also great conversation-starters.
