DeNel Rehberg Sedo (librolover) Hello and good evening UK Book Club!

I hope it is ok to post this here. I don't see where I can message the moderators separately. (But I do see that Ian is new. Congratulations! And, I see that Zoe and I share most of the same favourite books!) I am a reading researcher looking for participation in my latest project. We are trying to reach readers far and wide, and would very much like to hear from those of you in the UK or where ever you find yourself. (We are from Canada, but my research partner just moved here from Birmingham.)

If you've got about 10 minutes, we want to invite you to participate in our research project on reading practices. We are looking to get a snapshot of what you are reading, how much you’re reading, how you find out about books to read, and about where you share what you’re reading.

Please help us. As I say, the survey will take no longer than 10 minutes to complete, and you’d be helping out a great deal. As a token of our appreciation, you can put your name into a draw for a bookseller gift certificate.

Here are links to the survey:

or

https://redcap.ualberta.ca/surveys/?s...

Your responses are completely anonymous. At the end of the survey, there’ll be a link to put your name into a draw for a $100 (CDN) bookseller gift certificate good anywhere in the world, but your email address and your survey responses are completely separate from one another. (Sorry, that's not too many pounds, but it is something!)

The survey will be live until March 6, World Book Day.

Sincerely,
DeNel and Danielle Fuller

Hi DeNel & Danielle, I have moved this thread to 'Your Reading Experience' as it seems the more relevant location. What's the survey part of - is it a thesis project or market research? Do tell us a little more. :)

DeNel Rehberg Sedo (librolover) Thank you, Liz! I very much appreciate your time and help!

This is part of a larger academic project that is an extension of our earlier work on mass reading events. That particular project had us looking at One Book, One City type events and included an analysis of Canada Reads (sponsored by the Canadian Broadcasting Corp) and Richard and Judy's book club. We did a full analysis of the events and the readers who participated. That research took us five years to do, and we met soooooo many fine folks in the UK, the USA and in Canada. Our book from that research is called: Reading Beyond the Book: The Social Practices of Contemporary Literary Culture.

We want to update what we know about readers with this current project because so much has changed in book culture in the past 10 years. We've done a bit of analysis of Twitter, Instagram and Blogs, and now we're looking to hear directly from readers with this survey. Our next step will be to do focused book and reading discussions in an online environment. We'll be publishing a mini book with Cambridge University Press when we finish.

Of course, if people are interested in seeing the results, we can do a mini report!

If anyone has any other questions or concerns, please ask!

Thank you everyone for doing the survey. :-)
