Hopefully as a group we are doing okay.

But can we do anything better, add more things?

But a suggestion/comment

Mention what we are doing well, what we are not doing well.

We have very popular threads

Especially are regular threads/posts

But to me it has gone a little quite on certain regular threads

Like 10 Random Facts, which is great for new members, to get to know them.

Lots of the general threads.

My question is ?

Why are so many joining the group but not posting at all.

300 new members this year, maybe 5-6 have posted

I am interested to know.

PIFM has become very popular.

Which started when I added ten books from my shelf, and asked members to pick my next book.

Now it has been going great.

But Book Pal's have faltered, we used to have 40-50 members join in... why?

message 3: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments I don't do Book Pals anymore because I usually have too many books lined up, I don't want to add anymore. If I feel like reading together, which is fun I can usually find someone in the PIFM group. Also, if I do feel like reading with someone, the low number of people participating, makes me pass.

The Ten random facts , if you post there are often few responses. It's almost a repeat of the Welcome thread. I liked the thread where a member was on the "Hot Seat" and we could ask questions, but it seemed that one dried up too.

As a frequent poster, I don't know why people don't. Too busy? Violation of privacy?

message 4: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn I do think people get busy with their every day lives.

message 5: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn What about a book of the month? We could vote and all members can discuss.

Always thought about this.

But our PIFM seems to be the place when members join up to read a book.

But members who do not post or read posts will not know this if they do not join in?

Life is busy I know, but I just hope members would join in more.

For instance...

I have added a post to say Kerry j Donovan would be happy to do a Q and A's.

Not one person has replied to the post in a week!!

He is happy to do a Q and A's, but not much good if no one asks any questions, I would ask the group to read his book, but would members join in.

I’m in another group that also has dwindling participation. I’m only in 3 groups so that I feel I can participate equally in all of them. Hard telling why there is less at times.

message 9: by Sue (new)

Sue | 131 comments Sean, I join in some of the challenges & book pals, but I find there are so many threads to look through I don’t have time to read them all or contribute. But I love the group & have found some great new authors.

W | 34 comments Sean, why have you pinned so many old threads in the film section ? Anything new gets buried there.

message 12: by Sean, Moderator (new)

Sean Peters | 10510 comments Mod
I have added all new threads in the film section, and pinned them.

Although pinned to stay near the top, not one person has commented, which often I know you do.

Edward G Robinson/Spencer Tracey and William Holden only added a week ago, just over, also Harrison Ford NO, added a few days ago.

Non of the others are pinned at all, they stay there as no one comments, sadly.

Sometimes I check the older ones, and re-add so new posts to not overlap old ones.

This has happened with one actor, added twice.

Always happy for more film ones, as you know I am a mad film buff, and music buff !

Sue

fair comments and nice to know, it helps if we know you like us !

I do understand how we are busy, home, garden, work etc..

Just trying to build a group people enjoy.

Note we have been voted by Book Social the friendliest group on the internet !!

I just hope new members will add their posts.or comments, or just say hello.

Annie England | 1 comments Hi everyone! I am currently halfway through Stranger In The House by Shari Lapena. I think it is a very interesting book and it has kept my attention since page one. I will be making a trip to the library soon and was hoping for some recommendations...does anyone have a book they are currently reading that they can't seem to put down? I appreciate any feed back!
Much love
-Annie

PamG (lynguy1) | 2498 comments Sean and Janet: Thank you for being great moderators. Your loyal contributors appreciate all that you do to make this a great group.

My suggestion would be to archive some of the larger discussion threads and create replacement ones for 2023. I've started getting consistent time-outs on some of them such as the "Share Your Review" thread. Thanks for considering this.

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 58 comments Sean asks (post #1) Why are so many joining the group but not posting at all.

300 new members this year, maybe 5-6 have posted

I am guilty of this. I joined last year, if I remember rightly, but I haven't posted much at all. #4 post spells out the reason why - we all have busy lives. As an author of 7 books now, I find it takes up more time to market those 7 books. The fewer people buy, the more energy I need to put into marketing, so the less time I have to read - anything!

Mods, please don't get dispirited. Your time and guidance are appreciated.

My suggestion would be to have a really good thread where only Independent Authors' books are discussed.

Independent authors are not necessarily not so good as traditionally published authors. Some of us have good reasons why we don't approach publishers - I could give you a long list of reasons and one is that they coax you into writing what has already been written before (more or less) as they know it sells. This leaves originality out in the cold. Readers miss out.

Hello

Yes we have a thread for our Indie Authors.

In the authors area.

Thanks for your kind and honest thoughts.

Thanks Pam as well.

Janet best on your subject

I was thinking of not only the authors showing their books but some sort of encouragement for our readers to tackle some Indie authors too. Any ideas?

message 20: by CYIReadBooks (new)

CYIReadBooks (Claire) | 3 comments I'm guilty of not participating. I just have too many activities to finalize -- reviews, reading, managing author requests, etc. Though I'd like to participate, there are certain forums that really dictate priorities.

Will Have a think, and hope other members may give some ideas as well.

Thomas (tom471) | 1321 comments Sean, could you start a new "Share your review"thread ? It has over 10k posts and I have not been able to post on it for several days. i have read that threads with over 3k posts get wonky.
Thanks

Sean means to set up a thread in the 'books' folder. If you would prefer one of us to do it, we can. :0)

Well done Colin.

Anyone can post a new topic.

Janet and I will always check they are in the right place and can move them.
