All Our Yesterdays
question
How is Finn still Alive???

Beware of spoilers! At the end of chapter 37, the younger Finn gets shot. I'm confused on who shot him. Was it on accident or on purpose? Since the younger version of Finn gets killed, doesn't that mean he wouldn't be at the very end of the novel like he is? Once the younger version of the character dies, they shouldn't appear in the future, but at the end of the book Finn is there with Marina. I looked over the chapter again to make sure I didn't miss anything, but I'm still stuck.

As young James shot himself, the time machine wouldn't have been built and therefore the doctor (future James) wouldn't be able to travel back in time and kill the young Finn.
P.S. Doctor (future James) kills younger Finn.
