This is a thread to discuss the third novel in the Expanse series, Abaddon's Gate and the associated novella, The Churn.

Thanks Antti for starting the thread

When everyone plans to read it? I myself think about March 15th or so

I'll probably start tomorrow or early next week.

Definitely later in the month for me -- still waiting on a library copy.

I'm at about 75% of #2 and am tempted to go right into #3

Atlanta (dark_leo) | 115 comments I’m
25% in now and it’s a great distraction!

I've started! It's fun! But I'm experiencing once again how flat the prose is in these novels.

If we keep up this buddy read, I'm looking forward to getting ahead of where the story is in the TV series, so that I don't already know the trajectory of the plot.

I finished this some time ago: my spoiler-free review is here.

For me it is not flat but easy to read. I've enjoyed the re-read, on some level I think there is growth in quality.

Damn, I have no time. I will catch up in April.

Atlanta (dark_leo) | 115 comments 😂 flat?

Atl wrote: "😂 flat?"

As guess as antonym to poetic

Kalin | 1493 comments Mod
Flat, dry, economical, bland. Something along those lines.

I like the writing because it moves along.

Atlanta (dark_leo) | 115 comments 😂 I’m at 81% and I’m listening to it so I keep having to rewind. I had to return book 4 and renew my hold in the meantime 😂 at least the audio. I wouldn’t say it was flat at all. There is a lot of detail and a lot of characters. I feel like it kind of dragged because of all the details.

Kalin | 1493 comments Mod
Yeah I'm 150 pages in and realizing why season three condensed the "traveling to the Ring" part of the storyline into about 20 minutes.

Atlanta (dark_leo) | 115 comments Well I do have the kindle version of cibola burn checked out for 6 days. I may be able to get a start on it. It’s going to be ~4 weeks before the audio is available again.

Got over my qualms about the writing style and really enjoyed it, as usual! But I was sad that Drummer (from the show) wasn't a character, she's my favourite.
