message 32: by Annemarie (new)

Annemarie Carlson (annielawlz) | 361 comments I think another lanugage besides english like 78% of the time and its really strange when I switch languages.

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 64 comments Catherine wrote: "Sweet! I remember somefrench but mainly mandarin now. Dont u ever catch urself thinking in another language? I do its soooo bizarre"

Yes, sometimes, although I usually have to try to do it. Sometimes, if I'm thinking in one language I'm learning, I'll switch to another for words I don't know.

And I'm learning Spanish, French, German, and Hungarian.

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

o wow thats a lot! im not fluent in anything except english but i wish i was thatd be so cool to be able to fully think in 2 different languages!!

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 64 comments I'm not fluent in any of them! I can barely form sentences in German, and I don't even try to form sentences in Hungarian.

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

o lol still i wish i could just learn more than one language! i can only take one at a time

message 37: by Annemarie (new)

Annemarie Carlson (annielawlz) | 361 comments My moms German teacher said this to her class one day, "You are never going to be fluent in this language. To compeltly learn a language you have to grow up around it." I dont think all of what she said was true but I do think you need to expierence the culture and people of the particualr place for years until you completly know the language.

message 38: by Acacia (new)

Acacia (acaciaa) Someday I want to know lots of languages, and then use them to somehow confuse people.

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 64 comments Oh, my school only lets us take one at a time too! It's so annoying! I have to teach myself everything else. :P

Out of curiosity, how do you teach yourself languages?

message 41: by [deleted user] (new)

haha thats funny juliet but probably true!

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 64 comments Juliet wrote: "My moms German teacher said this to her class one day, "You are never going to be fluent in this language. To compeltly learn a language you have to grow up around it." I dont think all of what she..."

I think it's possible to become fluent in a language even if you don't grow up with it, but it would be very difficult, and you would have to spend some time in a country where that language was spoken.

I love doing that!

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

i wish i could do that!! all i can do is call my friend stupid in chinese!! lol

message 45: by Acacia (new)

Acacia (acaciaa) My friend and I, who take Spanish, convinced 6 of our other friends, who do not take Spanish, that "Tu estás embarazadas" meant "You are embarrassing."

They walked around calling each other pregnant for an hour before we told them.

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

LOL THATS HILARIOUS!!
one of my friends was asked what her grandmother was doing in spanish and she said smoking and the teacher thought she meant like drugs so she did thesse funny hand movements like, sucking something in and then shes like 'no, no,' and then between her fingers blowing and shes like 'i think u mean this, right?' lol

I did the same exact thing with my friends who take French!

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)

no way!! LOL!! i wish i knew how to say that in chinese!!

message 49: by Acacia (new)

Acacia (acaciaa) It was pretty funny. We're going to have to pull something like that on them again sometime soon. XD

Haha! My friend and I only knew that embarazadas does not equal embarrassing because my teacher, when he was taking Spanish, though it did. And he tried to tell his teacher he was embarrassed. Oops.
