Mystery Madness discussion

This thread will be for "Rule 2 Stick to Your Story" which is the second section of The Lying Game. It is approximately 42 pages long. My goal is to read this section during week 2 of March. You may of course read at your own pace and speed, but please stop in here after you finish Rule 2 and lets chat about it.

Rule 2 of The Lying Game: Stick to Your Story, really isn't about sticking to a story (or lie) because no story (or lie) has been told yet. There's a murdered sheep, a mysterious bloody note, and Luc seems to hate Isa. Also, Kate's dad may or may not have had an inappropriate relationship with Isa. That's all I've taken from this section.

Anyone else?

I think I will read ahead and read the Rule 3 section this week.

I think the Stick to your Story part of this comes with the story about coming down for the alumni dinner? Like I said, I've already finished, but I'm pretty sure Isa tells Mary at the store right before she runs into Luc that they were there for the alumni dinner? A very minute scene, but that's the only portion of what you mentioned that sticks out to me would apply to the Rule.

Yes, that conversation with Mary takes place in this section.

I just finished this section yesterday, so I officially met my goal of finishing it during Week 2. I'm going to have to step it up a bit this coming week since the third section is a bit longer. I'm listening on CDs from the library, and have the CD player in my kitchen. Now that the kids are going to be out of school this week due to the corona virus I'm going to have to find bits of time throughout the day to listen, and it will be more challenging. My goal is to listen to one CD per day until I get through Rule 3, despite the fact that I'm not enjoying the book.
In the most literal sense, I think you guys are right that "Sticking to Your Story" is about them saying that they are going to the alumni dinner. But I also think that it's figurative because this section gives us a larger view of how the girls were as kids and how they are committed to each other still in adulthood. They are "sticking" with each other no matter what. Even though Isa thinks Kate is lying to her in the present she is still willing to trust her and go along with whatever is in store for their future.
Of course I'm wondering what the dead sheep has to do with anything, but that could just be a red herring. It will be interesting to see what happens next.

I no what you mean. My two oldest kids will also be home with me this week. Definitely cutting into my quite reading time. My kids are home 3/13-4/7.

This book is reminding me a lot of The Secret Place by Tana French, which I read earlier in the month—4 girls who are friends at boarding school who sneak out at night and have a Murder affect their friendship.

I’m going to assume the murdered person is Ambrose now that Luc has shown up. Maybe he raped Isa and the girls killed him in response? That’s my working theory.

I assume the sheep was killed by Shadow and someone took advantage of that, although maybe the person actually did the killing as well.

Emily, I think you have a flare for mystery novels. I don't usually read these types of books. I like your theory! I'm curious what you'll think of it when you're finished. Maybe you can answer all my questions...
