What are your plans for the readathon?

message 2: by Carolyn (last edited Mar 09, 2020 02:06AM) (new)

Carolyn (cam00105) | 8 comments I'd love to join in with this Katie! Haven't decided which books to include yet but since so many of the books on my shelves are years old I'll have no issues choosing a TBR 😆. The only thing I know I will definitely be reading is David Copperfield before the movie comes out in May but since that is a reread I know it can't count lol. Looking forward to this 😆❤️📘❤️🎧.
********Edit***
I have thought of a few things...1. I will be reading Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson for the Cosmerealong
2.Pyramids book 7 in Discworld by Terry Pratchett (which I have been meaning to get to for like 2 years now)
3. Little Men by Louisa May Alcott 4. A PG Wodehouse 5. a non-fiction by Alison Weir. I have several others on my list but they are newer acquisitions so I'm not sure if they can count?

****2nd edit****
Ok definitely reading the books listed above but now in addition reading The Inheritance, either Forgotten Garden or House at Riverton, Tara Road, and 1/3rd of S by JJ Abrams and Doug Dorst (the Ship of Theseus part on audio :)). That should be plenty for the month since I also need to reread David Copperfield lol.

Melissa (melissafulton) | 10 comments I have two different strategies for this readathon: #1 Oldest TBR on Goodreads and #2 Books on my shelf that I've owned the longest without reading

For #1, I went to my Goodreads and pulled out the oldest "want-to-reads" (from 2011!) and found three books that I actually own: Pride and Prejudice, Love in the Time of Cholera, and The Time Traveller's Wife. So will try to read at least one of those.

For #2, I found Fragile Things (Neil Gaiman) which has been sitting on my shelf for many years and I am not sure why it has gone unread for so long!

message 4: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn (cam00105) | 8 comments Melissa- Pride and Prejudice and Time Traveller's Wife are 2 of my favorites so I hope you love them! For Fragile Things-would you be interested in buddy reading it? I have read a few stories in it but not the whole thing so I'd love to read it with you if you are interested 😀❤️📘

message 5: by Laurie (new)

Laurie Jean | 1 comments I don’t know what I am going to read, but hopefully a lot.

message 6: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn (cam00105) | 8 comments Freya and Melissa- you both are really making me want to reread Time Traveller's Wife because I haven't read it in 10 years! Freya- that sounds like a fantastic list! FFMC is WONDERFUL, hope you love it 😀

message 7: by Anja (new)

Anja I think I'm going to combine this readathon with my personal #AncientApril readathon (no booktube, only on instagram. But feel free to join in!) and read some Ovid, Cicero and whatever else I find hidden on my shelves.

message 8: by Keeley (new)

Keeley (abibliophilesjourney) | 4 comments I'm not sure what I'm going to read yet. I gave myself a bunch of reading challenges this year. So I'll have to decide in April which ones I want to focus on.

message 9: by Kat (new)

Kat Hi Katie & thanks for the invite. I have a very huge library of TBRs so it will be hard to decide but so many good ones … so I won’t have that much trouble! I may choose a classic because we all love our classics, right ? Maybe Hester which you recommended and which has been on my shelf for a while.

message 10: by Jade (new)

Jade | 1 comments I only own three novels that I purchased before 2020 so hopefully I can read at least 2 out of the 3.

1 - Blood Meridian by Cormic McCarthy
2 - Compass by Mathias Enard
3 - Balthazar by Lawrence Durrell

message 11: by Henk (new)

Henk For April I will be looking at the 41 books I still have as "to read" from the day I started my Goodreads account. At least tackling 5 of these would be my goal, currently thinking of:
- Swing Time of Zadie Smith
- The Nix of Nathan Hill
- Alias Grace of Margaret Atwood
- The Sellout of Paul Beatty
- Daar komen de Vliegen van David Pefko

message 12: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 5 comments I have a lot of books that picked up because I saw them on other channels and they’ve been languishing on my shelves ever since. I’m going to be reading those. Plus any other book that I’ve bought and neglected.

message 13: by Lulufrances (new)

Ohh The Nix is amazing, one of my faves from the year I read it - your list sounds pretty cool!

message 15: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (melissafulton) | 10 comments Carolyn - Yes to a buddy read of Fragile Things! and
Freya - Yes to a buddy read of The Time Traveler's Wife as well.
I've never done a buddy read, but I'm up for it! :)

Ernesto - I read War of the Worlds a couple of years ago and thought it was great!

message 16: by Merry (new)

Merry (lettersfromthelighthouse) I'm not sure what I'm going to read yet - I'm a terrible mood reader - but I have about 120 unread books, the majority of which are leftover classics I bought during my literature degrees but never got round to reading. So I'm guessing one or two of those? I don't think I'll be able to stick to only 'old' TBR books (most of my non-fiction and contemporary/literary fiction/poetry was acquired in the last two years), but I don't mind as long as I get round to a majority of old TBR books. Bonus points if I can also make those work for the OWLs readathon. XD (I'm wainting for the prompts to decide whether or not I want to participate.)

message 17: by Denise (new)

Denise Wilbanks | This Is My Everybody (thisismyeverybody) | 7 comments Since I am new to the Booktube scene, I want to try and tame my ARC stack, which constantly throws me tons of guilt! Bonus: It is filled with a wide assortment of books. So, I will definitely remain entertained! Plus, I like paying the #TBRClearOut Readathon love forward with getting some of those reviews done as well!... ✨😎✨

message 18: by Eleanor (last edited Mar 09, 2020 03:55PM) (new)

Eleanor I’m also not sure what I’m going to read yet, although I do know it will be on my Kindle. I have 115 unread books on it, a mixture of non-fiction (mainly history) and “the complete works of x” type books where x is a classic author I want to read. I’m not even going to look at my physical bookshelves as I need to rearrange them and (gasp 😱) cull them to make space for all the books I currently own and will own in the (sometimes) near future.

message 19: by Gemma (new)

Gemma (readabookgem) I love seeing what everyone is planning on reading in April. I think I might focus on the books I picked up in 2019 that I was really excited about but did not get to. I will try and choose from a range of genres too so it is a varied selection. I haven't narrowed it down beyond that initial thought yet though!

message 20: by Jack✨ (new)

Jack✨ (creationofgreatness) | 3 comments I want to read more dark academia books

message 21: by Jan (new)

Jan (pearljanquilts) | 3 comments Whenever I read from my own shelves I am rewarded, and a month devoted to this is a splendid idea. I will probably choose a book as mood strikes.

message 22: by Iza (new)

Iza Brekilien (izabrekilien) | 9 comments I haven't decided yet what I'll be reading... I'd like to pick the books on my physical shelves that have been there the longest - and for that, I'll be counting only on my memory. I might also pick the ones I might have put off reading for years again !

message 23: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jessgrace) | 1 comments I've recently moved house and have realised I have far too many books (if there's such a thing) so my plan for tbr April is to walk to my bookshelf, pick a book I haven't read, read it and repeat!

message 24: by Susan (new)

Susan Manning | 5 comments this evening i am going to have to dust some of my TBR's off and look for something that i have lost interest in and get ready for April 1st!. stay tuned......

message 25: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn (cam00105) | 8 comments Seeing what everyone is planning is so fun!
Melissa and Freya- would you mind if I join in with Time Traveller's Wife?
Denise- tackling ARCs is a great idea! You reminded me I have an ARC from a few years ago that I really should read 😆

message 26: by Carolyn (new)

Hi, Carolyn! Wonderful!... My ARC stack really needs some serious love! Especially because each book in that stack was certainly gifted to me with love... Looking forward to reading together in #TBRClearOut!... ✨😎✨

message 28: by Lilian (new)

Lilian (readingmaterial) Hi fellow readers! I will mostly be combing through my Netgalley shelf. I have many great books that we exciting and shiny when I requested and now are hanging over me. I am prioritizing Adam Grant's Originals, The Girl in the Tree by Sebnem Isiguzel. On my physical TBR, I want to FINALLY get to Histories of the Hanged by David Anderson. #TBRClearOut. 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾

message 29: by Sherri (new)

Sherri | 1 comments I am still planning on what to choose. Clearing out my TBR is one of my goals for 2020 so perfect timing. :)

For April I would love to finish reading Clarissa, or, the History of a Young Lady. It has been on my "currently reading" list the longest, by over 2 years. I think I prepared myself enough to finish the tome.

message 30: by Anna (new)

Anna | 2 comments I'm hoping to finish all the books I'm currently reading as listed on my Goodreads account. Many of them are books which I have been meaning to read or finish since last November

message 31: by Nisha (last edited Mar 14, 2020 11:33AM) (new)

Nisha (therootedreader) I have several possibilities: Wilding by Isabella Tree, Landmarks by Robert MacFarlane, and Refuge by Terry Tempest Williams. I'd like to read all of them in April, but the most likely one is Refuge. Maybe also read either Villette or Wives and Daughters, or try again with Mary Barton. So many possibilities! We'll see which ones I end up reading.

message 32: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (melissafulton) | 10 comments Freya and Carolyn. want to start time travelers wife buddy read start of April?
also to Carolyn: for fragile things buddy read... do you want to start that early April as well? I'm probably going to pick away at it all month

message 33: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn (cam00105) | 8 comments Melissa- for Time Traveller's Wife, if I can get the audiobook in time, that sounds great! Same for Fragile Things, that sounds good as well and I agree about reading it throughout the month, that is how I like to read short story collections too😀. Melissa and Freya- do either or both of you have Voxer? For me, that seems the easiest way to communicate during buddy reads 😀.

message 34: by H (new)

H Based on my average reading speed of 10 pages per hour, need for accountability, interests in the classics and philosophy, and in accordance to the SMART criteria (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Bound) when setting goals, here are my choices for this readathon:

The Iliad Apr 1 - Apr 11
The Odyssey Apr 12 - Apr 19
Meditations Apr 20 - Apr 30

It would be great if others are also interested in reading these or want to share thoughts.

message 35: by Aakanksha (new)

Aakanksha (akusingh) @ WillSilver: how exciting! wish I could unread the foundation series and read it again with you. One of my all time favs.

I think I've put off reading The Handmaid's Tale for far too long. It might be time.
I also started the Broken earth series by NK Jemisin a while ago but never continued with it.

message 36: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (melissafulton) | 10 comments Carolyn - I have Voxer so we can use that!

message 37: by Helen (new)

Helen | 8 comments I think I've decided on 6 books that fit for both this readathon the the Magical Readathon.
They are:
1. The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe
2. The Time Machine By H.G. Wells
3. Gone Girl By Gillian Flynn
4. Changeless By Gail Carriger
5. The Wild Horse Trap By Marian T. Place (have had this book on my TBR since I first read it back in 2001)
6. Etched in Bone by Anne Bishop

I've read a shortened version meant for kids years ago when I was young and it was fascinating, can't wait to finally read the whole thing.

I'm putting my TBR together at the moment - it's getting out-of-control long, but hopefully my TBR video will be up on Thursday!

message 41: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn (cam00105) | 8 comments Freya- great! I can send a DM with my Voxer, it's a great way to chat during buddy reads and it's free! 🙂

message 42: by Gillian (new)

Gillian | 5 comments Perfect timing on this with libraries being closed - a good time to concentrate on the books already on the shelf!

Hoping to get through several more but the priorities are:

1. Among the Living and the Dead: A Tale of Exile and Homecoming on the War Roads of Europe

2. Requiem for a Dream

3. Villette

4. The Worst Journey in the World

5. The Devotion of Suspect X

Looking forward to following everyone's progress!

- The lion , the witch , and the wardrobe. ( narnia book 2 . This will kill me just to to read. cause I like to read things in order.)

My TBR's here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IwpZ... It's a bit too long :P

message 47: by Louise (new)

Louise | 3 comments I don't think I'm going to come up with too much of a pre-meditated TBR since I'm a real mood reader (and there are SO many books I want to get to), but I am currently kind of eyeballing the following:

The Enchantress of Florence by Salman Rushdie
The Dew Breaker by Edwidge Danticat
The Englishman's Boy by Guy Vanderhaeghe
The Sound of Waves by Yukio Mishima
Mariette in Ecstasy by Ron Hansen

I'm also in the middle of Anna Karenina right now, and had also started into Beloved (Toni Morrison), so I will need to finish those up in April too. We'll see how far I get! :-)

message 48: by Rebecca (last edited Mar 31, 2020 05:24AM) (new)

Rebecca (booknester) As I said previously this is perfect timing - and I will be focusing on books that I have started but not finished. I have at least 9 books that over the years I have begun but not finished, not necessarily because I was not enjoying them, but that I have was distracted by something else. So this month - nothing new to open but finish those on my TBR that I have already started! Canididates for my #GetterRead are -
The Winter Palace,
Speaks the Nightbird (currently listening too)
The Seige Winter,
The Lost Girls of Paris,
Paris a short history,
The Book of Boy (Library book),
Little Women (subscription service book)
Serafina and the Black Cloak.

So true about the library aspect! Enjoy your reading!

message 50: by Anja (new)

Anja (pippimonster) | 7 comments I've decided to dive into the book that's been haunting me for nearly three decades. If there is one book I've been wanting to read and avoiding, it's Clarissa. Over the past couple of years I've been preparing myself for it, and this gives me the nudge I needed to make the commitment. Tomorrow, it begins!
