25.5 - Brooke TX's task: Paperback Playlists

I follow a lot of bookish Instagram pages, and one of them (@paperbackbones) frequently makes playlists to accompany books featured in Fox & Wit subscription boxes. While I definitely prefer to read in silence, I love the idea of curating playlists inspired by your favorite books!

For this task, choose one of the Fox & Wit playlists, and read 2 books from the options below based on your chosen playlist. Read one book from two different options or two books from one option.

ONE of your books may have an MPG of "Sequential Art", "Comics", "Comic Book", or "Manga."

Required: Provide a link to your chosen playlist when you post.

Option 1: Read the book which inspired the playlist you chose. A list of books can be found in post 2 of the help thread. If the playlist is based on an entire series, any book from that series that fits SRC rules will work.

Option 2: Read a book with a word in the title/subtitle that matches a word in a song title from your chosen playlist. The words "A," "An," and "The" are excluded. If choosing to read two books for this option, you may use the same song title for both books, but the matching words must be different. For example, if you chose The Starless Sea playlist, you could read Disappearance at Devil's Rock and Gone Girl to match "The Disappearance of the Girl," but NOT Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train.

Option 3: Read a book by a single author whose initials can be found in one of the artists featured on your chosen playlists. All initials count. Letters may only be used as often as they appear.

Christine | 917 comments Fun task! Just to make sure I understand:

If I choose the "Stories Come to Life" playlist, I could read The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heep for Option 1. Then for Option 3, I could read Sword of Destiny by Andrzej Sapkowski, because his initials AS are found in Hans Zimmer who is one of the artists on the playlist I chose.

Would this be correct? Thanks!

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 3940 comments Using Adventure in the great wide I could read

The Ten Thousand Doors of January

and The Echoes of Love love being matching word in song "Playground love"

OR Secret Sister author initials EG in "villagers" whose song is Fortunate child

Is this right

Yes, all your selections must use the same playlist. You can use the same same song, but the matching word must be different.

Julia (julia103) | 2719 comments If an author includes a middle name, does the middle initial need to be included in the artist name or only the first and last initials?

(I'm looking at Mary Dingee Fillmore and Florence + the Machine)

Bea So if I am understanding this:

I can read A Court of Mist and Fury for playlist night triumphant & stars eternal for Option 1 and then read Night Moves matching Night in the title with the same word in the song "If only for a night" for Option 2.

Did I get this right?

I've been able to see all the playlists without logging into Spotify. I'm in the U.S. - not sure if that makes a difference.

I'm not in the us. The link just takes me to a sign in or sign up page with no way to continue without signing up

Here's a direct link to one of the playlists: Take Flight

Does that work? Or do you still land on the sign up page?

If you still can't see the playlists, I'm working on taking screenshots and uploading them to Google Drive. It may take me a bit to get all of them, so if there's a particular one you're interested in, let me know!

As long as all of the author's initials are found in your chosen artist names, that works!

Ok. Brooke is working on taking screen shots. She already has some (if not all - I didn't count them) up on the link she posted in message 23.

ETA -- She's linked linked the ones she's finished in message 2, also.

I've got most of them up now! The really long lists will have to wait until I get home, so I can try to merge them into one image. Sorry for the difficulty!

Brooke | 1419 comments Florence wrote: "Would I be able to read Persuasion for What would Jane Austen do? or is that referencing a specific book?"

Persuasion wouldn't work for Option 1, because What Would Jane Austen Do? is inspired by Dangerous Alliance: An Austentacious Romance, but it would work for Option 3 (initials JA can be found in the artist Jane Eaglen from the playlist).

Only if it fits one of the other options. It cannot be used for option 1.

From the Challenge's FAQs: "if the book on the list is in a series, you cannot substitute a different book in the series."

Yes! It looks like that playlist was added after the start of the challenge, but I've added it to the list in post 2.
