there is a lot of depressing statements and gore In the light brigade. I figured we could make a thread of our favorite bleakest parts like we did favorite quotes from Hogfather could be fun. debated making this tread but the fact that Gideon the ninth's voice kept popping in my head saying That's seriously messed up clinched it for me.

I like the part towards the end where Diets explains her ideal death to her interrogator. won't quote it here might have a spoiler but manages somehow to be Bleak and Gory and yet still optimistic like the book itself. she really wants to be dug up by foxes so her body will feed a family. that's some serious messed up shit!

The book was a bit too bleak for my state of mind these days, though I thought it was technically well done.

I too loved Dietz's ideal death, and found it incredibly optimistic. I can only hope for such a death as well

Agreed; life goals.

On the one hand, this book was dark. On the other, it felt very now. There were a lot of issues that seemed relevant in the world in the 2020's. Even a medical epidemic.

I found some of it a bit too of the moment, honestly!

All I know is, I don't personally feel compelled to prove the emperor has no clothes or doesn't by going to church on easter, if you get my meaning.

Yep. This is the one.

Reading this book, I think wow this is a great book that everyone should read because it is masterfully crafted.

Second, I will never read this book again because as this thread says "that's some serious messed up 'porcaria"" (pardon my Portuguese)
