As usual, I already have a list that I can fill from my TBR list LOL. Can you tell that I just like books! Anyway - here is my list for now.

I actually read two books off of my list for last month, and one that wasn't, so maybe I will be able to do this.

I'll be starting with Poison Study, since it has to be back to the library first.

Have you read any other books by Snydor?? I was thinking they looked good and was curious. I tried to win her new book last week, but wasn't my day to be lucky.

This will give me the perfect opportunity to indulge in another one or two Sookie Stackhouse books. I think the next one I have to read is Club Dead.

I am also going to try and read one or two of the Sookie Stackhouse books. I have just read the 1st one. I am sure I will find one or two more other books on this shelf as the month progresses.


I am also going to attempt... A Harvest of Bones and Deja Demon The Days and Nights of a Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom. If I have time I will also read Secondhand Spirits A Witchcraft Mystery and Vampire Close.

Long list: I will see how far I get.

Am trying to not purchase any new books at the moment as the Mt. is growing more than it's receding. Am delighted that I have quite a few that fit into the paranormal category & I won't be breaking the pact with myself.

I hear you Cam. I am trying to either read books I already own, or get them from the library, but I HAVE to quit adding books to the pile. I really want to read The Prophecy of the Sisters for a challenge that I am doing as it looks really good, but my library doesn't have it, so I am debating what to do about it. I have also wanted to read The Historian for quite a while. Let me know what you think.

Will do Lyn, The Historian has been sitting on the Mt. the longest of them all. Will take some finding, but I know it's in there somewhere? Prophecy - library isn't planning on getting it in? With a bit of luck you'll stumble across a really cheap copy that would just be a crime not to buy, and madness if you didn't.

I just sent an e-mail request to the library to see if they are planning to get it, so I have my fingers crossed.

So far I'm looking at:

At the moment I'm aiming to read Vampire Academy. Still stuck in the middle of my September's book, though. The Pillars of the Earth is long!!!

I haven't been involved for awhile, due to school starting back up and the kids playing football but now is the perfect time to rejoin the fun. I have been loaned ALL the Sookie Stackhouse books by my awesome colleague and fellow member, Chelsea, so I will for sure read one of those (I'm on #2) and probably also try to tackle Dresden #3.

Cam & Lyn - You should read The Historian. I'm not really into vampires, but this is just so well-written, I didn't even mind. And if you like history (and traveling), it's great as those genres too. A little bit for everyone!

Don't know what to read yet, but so far:

Dracula by Bram Stoker
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Seth Grahame-Smith

So, turns out that 2 of the books I am not going to get to for this month, are also on this shelf, so now I don't feel so rushed. I have been reading too many really long books. Oh well! This is at least doable for me this time.

I am trying to do the same. Luckily our library has had most of what I don't have. This is the time of year I try to purchase less extras.

My choice for October is The Third Angel by Alice Hoffman. It's been on my TBR list ever since a friend recommended it so I'm looking forward to it!

If I don't get through the Gemma Doyle series this month, I can fit that in next month as well.

I will also read Graceling and hopefully Dracula.

I will read Dead Until Dark as I really love the TV show and have had this first book in the series on my TBR list for a while.

Going to be a little bit more cautious for October, since I don't think I'm going to finish the last one for September (got greedy!) So I'll start with 5, and if I finish these, I may add more.

Meghan - I love history, especially history about other places. I have had this on my list ever since it came out originally, but just never got around to it. I will have to read it soon. Thanks for the review.

My choice for October would be Odd Thomas. I have had that book for some time but have never read it. Now, I will have a reason to. I will make myself read this in October.

I had to search through this shelf for a while as a lot of these books are the sort I don't normally admit to reading :P

I LOVED the 13th Tale. It was one of the most unique and entertaining books I had read in a long while. I think you will enjoy it.

Could someone recommend me a paranormal book that isn't about vampires? What about an alien or ghost story-- any recommendations? I want a story that will scare me but not too badly.

I've already read The Thirteenth Tale and liked it. I've read American Gods but didn't care for it.

How about Frankenstein by Mary Shelley?

How about Carpe Demon, it is more of a light read though, but it is more funny than scary.

Tithe A Modern Faerie Tale, I don't know about scary, but creepy.

The Stolen Child A Novel may be a good book to try as well, very dark.

I loved The Gargoyle, one of my favorite books! It is a wonderfully written tale that intertwines fantasy with historical fiction. May be a good pick if you are not usually into paranormal or fantasy books.

How paranormal do you want? Nora Roberts has her "In the Garden" trilogy which has a ghost - rather benign at first, but seriously ticked off by the 3rd book:
Blue Dahlia, Black Rose, Red Lily

and also the Three Sisters Island trilogy about witches:
Dance Upon the Air, Heaven and Earth, Face the Fire

and the Sign of Seven Trilogy - this one is much darker than the other two.
There's also the Circle Trilogy, but there are some vampires in it (one is a hero)

What about The Shining by Stephen King. It's a halloween classic. And you can be like Joey (from Friends) and put it in the freezer if it gets to be too scary. heh

I had to look to see if this book fell under Paranormal. It does.

Dracula by Bram Stoker

I also want to read another one, probably something older by Stephen King. I usually pick whatever is in the library, since they are so hard to get.

There are lots of books I could read from this shelf! I think I will start with Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz and then see what I feel like after that.

For this month, I'll be reading Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris and Dark Lover by JR Ward (which had been in my shelf for months).

Okay, scratch We Have Always Lived in the Castle from my list. I just finished it and I don't know WHO would put that on the paranormal shelf because there was nothing paranormal about it. Creepy. Yes. As any good Jackson story should be. But not for this month. Dang.

Time and Again I have this one on my shelf of not-yet-reads and it is on the paranormal shelf, so I am starting with this one.

I think I will read Strange Candy by Laurell K Hamilton
Also Burnt Offering by same author
Then Maybe the Second Vampire Diary book

Have you read any of the Sookie Stackhouse novels Julie? I would suggest them if you like other vampire books. :)

I have almost finished Poison Study, and have just started Covet, and am so far loving the irreverent tone.

I have a lot of other things I want to read this month and I just started An Echo in the Bone by Diana Gabaldon (which I don't think is on the paranormal list) so I am going to commit to one book of a possible three book list.

1. Interview With the Vampire by Anne Rice
I do own this book but never get around to reading it
2. Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning
This book I own and love her work but just haven't started it yet
3. My Soul to Take by Rachel Vincent
This book is a little outside my comfort zone and I don't even have it yet but maybe I will soon.

It was hard to find books on this list that I hadn't already read. For me, the Paranormal Genre is a favorite.

OOh Jessica - Can I point you to Darkfever. I love this series, and have Dreamfever on my list for the month.

i haven't read all the Sooke yet but I do love me some TRue BLood! I have only read books 1 and 3 b/c they are super hard to get from the library but charliene Harris is one of my faves- I love ALL her series!

Lyn-- I just started the Fever series on a recomendation from my friend at work!

You know what Lyn, I think I have to go that way. I love Karen's work and read her whole Highlander series and I know I will love this too. I take it that you loved Darkfever. :)
