Saturday sounds perfect. The book has 20 chapters, should we limit ourselves to say 3 or 5 a day, or just binge the whole thing? :D

I’ll read The Priory of the Orange Tree with you. It has been sitting in my kindle library for a year now waiting for me to get the guts to start another 800 page book.

I'm going on an Eli Easton binge. I need sth light and fun. I'm definitely going to read How to Howl at the Moon (Howl at the Moon #1) by Eli Easton (How to Howl at the Moon) and
Robby Riverton Mail Order Bride by Eli Easton (Robby Riverton: Mail Order Bride)

Both are free on Kindle Unlimited.
After that, I'll probably reread some of my favorites of hers.
Anyone interested?

message 16: by Heike (new)

Heike | 152 comments I'd give Robby Riverton: Mail Order Bride a try. Never done a buddy read, so you may need to help me along here. Due to a snow storm lurking around the corner I'd be able to start this afternoon, however, I am not the fastest reader, will take me two or three days, depending on how much I like it :)

Oh yay! Not about the snow storm, though, that sounds awful. Stay safe! I can also start today.

Tadahhh, your first buddy read happening here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
The idea is basically that we both read the book and talk about it. Nothing scary 😉 depending on how much time we have, we usually decide how many chapters we read before we discuss, so as to avoid spoilers as best we can.

Awesome! I just finished up Romancing Mister Bridgerton and was very disappointed. I know you liked it, but I could find none of Julia Quinn's usual wit. A bully as a male protagonist and a - sorry, despite her depth - dreadfully boring female protagonist - I need a break from that genre ;)

message 19: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 836 comments Mod
No worries, we all love different things :D

I took a break from HR a long time ago. I make some occasional exceptions, but all my old favorites have let me down by now. I don't even know if I want to read the next Julia Quinn, for example. I so disliked the last 2....

Hopefully the complete change of scenery will be like a palate cleanser for you :D

Would anyone be interested in (re)reading The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy with me? I miss this strange little book, and I just got the audiobook (read by Stephen Fry) from audible :)

Also, my copy of First Comes Scandal was finally shipped and should arrive the first week of May.

Aaaaaand, an old book from my amazon wishlist went on sale: True Pretenses is on sale for €1.84.

If anyone is interested in any of these, let me know :)

I hope you're all well and doing ok <3

message 21: by Heike (new)

Heike | 152 comments I would join in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.I read this one *mumble* years ago (so long ago that it would give away my age), and I just acquired it a year or so ago for a re-read.

Oh yay! I need to finish some books, though, before I start the next :D Maybe next week?

message 23: by Heike (new)

Heike | 152 comments Let me know whenever you are ready! I do not have TBR piles that I am pressured to finish ;)
But it looks like as if you are working through a stack of PG Woodhouse's, which actually made me curious enough to buy one (The Jeeves Omnibus), so I'll be starting on that one too :)

message 24: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 836 comments Mod
I will :)
And yes, I'm re-reading the entire series. I love the TV adaptation (it has Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry. I mean… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKpJQ...), but I decided it has been too long without a Wodehouse book :D His writing style takes some getting used to, but I love it now!

Oh my gosh! Hugh Laurie is a baby in this one! *lol*
The english english is a bit tough for me to understand, go figure.

Hey all :)

Is there any chance anyone wants to read Julia Quinn's latest, First Comes Scandal? I'm a bit scared, tbh, because I actually disliked (*GASP*, I know…) the last two books in the series. I might not even have finished one of them. It's just sad that her books no longer work for me. But I'm not willing to just give up on her. I loved her old books too much for that.

Give me a day, I am might be able to get it, just need to convince my kindle to recognize uploaded books.
Just be warned: I did not even finish the second in this series The Girl with the Make-Believe Husband

No hurry. Amazon shipped it yesterday, but they said I should expect delivery on Saturday. Delivery services are so overwhelmed, everything takes much longer to deliver at the moment.

And also no worries. I didn't like the second one (I agree, it was awful), and I gave up on the third one after a few chapters. So. I have zero expectations.

I also need to finish some of my other books first. For the first time, I think I might be reading to many books at the same time...

Heike | 152 comments Andrea wrote: "I also need to finish some of my other books first. For the first time, I think I might be reading to many books at the same time... ."

First I wanted to say one can never read enough books .... but reading them at the same time seems tough. I tend to abandon books I interrupted with starting another book. Usually because the interruption was welcome in the first place ...

Anyone interested in reading

Pop Star

or

Slippery Creatures (comes out tomorrow, May 13)

with me?

message 32: by Heike (new)

Heike | 152 comments You got me started on Eli Easton, and I am finishing up Family Camp today - despite cuteness overload I am loving it.
Would you consider Eden Finley as an author with a similar writing style? No angst based on mis-communication, a minimum of inner dialog, funny - that kind of writing?
Then I might go with Pop Star, despite the Rockstar/Bodyguard setup, which I both despise ... ;)

message 33: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 836 comments Mod
Uhm. I don't know. Most of her boys are loveable idiots in some way, with rare mature guys, but most of the ones from the Fake Boyfriend series were athletes and basically refused to grow up? I like the snark and sarcasm, though. The popstar in question is an ex from one of the leads from the fake boyfriend series, and he was a bit of a drama queen back in that book. I honestly don't know :D

message 34: by Trip (last edited May 14, 2020 12:36PM) (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) I adore Eden Finelys Fake Boyfriend books so far, but I haven't enjoyed much of Eli Eastons in comparison. I would say they're very different writing wise, but both I think have good humor and plenty of fluff. I'd say Eden Finleys does have some miscommunication at points and light angst, also inner dialog but it's usually a lot of fun and the character development is great from the couple of books ive read so far.

Got Pop star on my tbr but not got time to read it at the moment xx

I scanned the first chapter and it does not sound like the typical "weak heroine and her overpowering super protective bodyguard" or "super cool rockstar tamed by the girl-next-door" deal, so I'd go for it! :)
I am a bit slowing down reading wise now that summer is around the corner, but I still get my book-fix every evening.

I'm with Gio, I watched the show, and that was enough for me :) And seriously, FUNNY? Did they change everything about the book??? Cause the TV show was pretty bleak and brutal. We are talking about the one with Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, and the True Blood guy, right?
