On the Come Up discussion

Angie Thomas has done it again! This is my second novel of hers and each time she never fails to impress me with her amazingness. In this novel, she tells the story of a young girl by the name of Bri trying to balance between whether she should continue on in her deceased fathers' footsteps with her underground rap career, or if she should pause on her dreamed to help her mother who has just recently been laid off from her job. Thomas shows the struggles of many black families who might be struggling with bills and food because of the loss or absence of one or both parents. Readers see Bri having to make the difficult choice of figuring out what is best for her and what is best for her family in a hard time like this one. This novel definitely touched my heart and I believe it will touch yours as well!
