Early Murakami. 3rd in series but 1st published in English. Great prose, imagery and characters. Main character passively in search for meaning of life with nothing to lose. Offbeat plot, including slightly mystical or surreal twists, foreshadowing “The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle” and “Kafka on the Shore”. For fans, worthwhile read.
