English Mysteries Club discussion

Hello everybody,

I am looking for names of contemporary character driven mysteries. I am open to the whole world of contemporary mystery writers. I'd be delighted to have some suggestions.

There was Agatha Christie, but among contemporary writers, I have found and I am reading Linda Rodriguez and read Pamela Wechsler.

Elly Griffiths-Ruth Galloway series; Donna Leon-Brunetti series; Peter May-The Lewis Trilogy. That gives you England, Italy & Scotland! :) Oh and another UK is Kate Atkinson - Jackson Brodie series.

Tana French - The Wych Elm. Henning Mankel - Depths. Kiego Higashino - Journey Under the midnight sun.

Jennifer and Sonali have made some great suggestions, Claude. I would add Canadian writer Louise Penny — these are stories that continue to make me think about the characters, how they think, how they act.

I would also recommend American mother and son writing team Charles Todd and their Ian Rutledge series. I also read their Bess Crawford books but Rutledge, as a character, is terrific!

I love Louise Penny. And Charles Todd too,but I have read only the Rutledge series.

I had forgotten Donna Leon. Yes, she is definitely character driven.
