Thanks for including me! (I may also need to read "50 Shades..."-- I haven't but it would be a good one for the made into a movie challenge book!).

message 10: by Lenka (new)

Lenka I think I might start with Stephen King's "It" :) I'm very curious what happens on those approximately 1000 pages!

Danielle Fadel (danielle_fd) | 1 comments I think I'll read Gone Girl because I haven't yet. That's if I finished The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness before the end of the year. I'll start with it today or tomorrow.

warning, gone girl has a disappointing ending. other than that i zoomed though the book, it was rather good.

message 17: by Naura (new)

Naura (nauratheexplora) | 7 comments I was disappointed in the ending of Gone Girl as well (I read it a few years ago), BUT I absolutely loved the movie and seeing the story come to life made me understand the ending better.

message 23: by Karen (new)

Karen Lee | 3 comments I think to start 2015 I am going to read all three of the 50 shades just for fun as this is a busy time of year for me. I have next on my list to read Born To Run by Christopher McDougall. You all have put out great suggestions here. Loving this.

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

Born to Run is such a great story! Are you an ultra runner?

message 25: by Karen (new)

Karen Lee | 3 comments Not an ultra runner but marathons. My dad gave it to me and I just haven't read it yet. I am reading Unbroken right now. I WISH I was an ultra runner! LOL!

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

If you're a marathoner, you can be an ultra runner easily! I went from 10K to ultra! Unbroken is on my to-read list! Enjoy Born to Run!

message 27: by Sakebushippo (new)

Sakebushippo (divergente) I'm going to start Lemony Snicket's The Grim Grotto.

message 28: by Tami (new)

Tami (tamidale) This will be my first: Prague Winter by Madeleine Albright
I could fit this into several categories, but I guess I will start with "memoir."

message 29: by Marie (new)

Marie | 1 comments I'm going to read "Before I go to sleep" by S.J. Watson. (Book that became a movie)

message 30: by Karen (new)

Karen Lee | 3 comments Tami, that looks like a good one. I love Memoirs and biographies.

message 31: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Gonzalez | 14 comments Mod
I'm going to start with the book I started but never finished. I only got about 2 chapters into The Kite Runner about a month ago and then got swamped with work. Time to try again!

message 32: by Marques (new)

Marques October (frogged) I'm thinking about reading The Princess Bride by William Goldman! (Book that became a movie) Love the movie, I bet it will be a great book! Also starting that free trial of Kindle Unlimited ;3

message 33: by Cat (new)

Cat | 1 comments I think I'm going to go with City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare (Book a friend recommended) because one of my friends has been trying to get me to read this for over a year and I've just been a bit useless. :p

message 34: by Allison (last edited Dec 31, 2014 08:57AM) (new)

Allison (allimcd3) | 4 comments I'm currently finishing up Jane Eyre, it's been in my currently reading list most of the year. I'm also trying Kindle Unlimited to see if it has enough books I'd want to read to make it worth it.

message 35: by Sanna (new)

Sanna (duckwheelchair) | 2 comments Finishing 'Look who's back' by Timur Vermes first and then 'Requiem' by Lauren Oliver and 'Winter's Tale' by Mark Helprin.

message 36: by Kayleigh (new)

Kayleigh Greory | 1 comments Matched by Ally Condie

message 37: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn Rogers | 3 comments Just finished Nicola Moriarty Free-Falling.

I actually really enjoyed it

This ticks "book by a female author" and is me started on this challenge

message 38: by Meg (last edited Dec 31, 2014 02:08PM) (new)

Meg (shutup_meg) Decided my first book will be I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings because sadly I haven't read it yet! This will fit nicely under 'book you were supposed to read for school but didn't'. :)

message 39: by Payten (new)

Payten | 2 comments I'm in my first year of college now, but all though school I've always read everything I was supposed to. (Yes, I was that freak who actually ENJOYED the books we had to read lol). I think I'm going to change the challenge into rereading a book I had to read for school, so I want to start off the year with Wuthering Heights, one of my favorite books ever!!

message 40: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Cook (lisamcook) | 4 comments I'm starting with Wild by Cheryl Strayed. Then I'm on to rereading Jane Eyre. I think I'm going to listen to Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk by David Sedaris while I work out. It's a lot of books to get through in a year, so I thought "reading" a few books on my list through audio would be helpful.

message 41: by Cris (new)

Cris Félix | 1 comments John Fante and the last Arturo Bandini's book to start 2015!

message 42: by Gina (new)

Gina | 3 comments Starting with the book I never finished! Fifty Shades Freed!

message 43: by Tami (new)

Tami (tamidale) Karen wrote: "Tami, that looks like a good one. I love Memoirs and biographies."

Karen, I am about 250 pages in and it's very interesting. The first few chapters were a bit dull--a lot of politics and background history about Prague/Czech Republic, but once Albright got into the years after her birth and the events leading up to Hitler's invasion, it has become hard to put down.

message 44: by Ana (new)

Ana (mgnolia) My first book in 2015 will be MausThe Complete Maus

message 45: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Figueroa I started my book of short stories- The Best of H.P. Lovecraft: Bloodcurdling Tales of Horror & the Macabre.

message 46: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire6452) My first book of 2015 was The Return of the Soldier by Rebecca West. It's about a British soldier in WWI who suffers a concussion and loses all memory of the past 15 years, including his marriage. He thinks he's still in a relationship with his girlfriend from the past, and the story revolves around the willingness of the people in his life to do what must be done to help him, regardless of how it affects each of them.

The writing style is a bit dated, but it's a beautiful study of the meaning of true love.

And it's by a female author, so I'm on my way.

message 47: by Kay (new)

Kay Wilson | 1 comments I've just finished 1984 by George Orwell. It's one of those books I ought to have read when I was at school and didn't. But, as I've got a couple of those still to read, I'm popping it into the 'book with a number in its title' category.

message 48: by Sue (new)

Sue (paperdiva) | 1 comments I started The Silkworm last night. Think I'm going for book set in another country.

message 49: by Abi (last edited Jan 07, 2015 10:07AM) (new)

Abi Carter | 2 comments I just finished I Work at a Public Library: A Collection of Crazy Stories from the Stacks a few days ago for my funny book.

message 50: by Tami (new)

Tami (tamidale) Abi wrote: "I just finished I Work at a Public Library: A Collection of Crazy Stories from the Stacks a few days ago for my funny book."

Would this be a good one for short stories as well?
