Reading (Expanding Horizons) discussion

I will tackle that book some time. I have avoided doing so because I heard the author got paid to go to these places, instead of it being spontaneous on her part. I think I need to delve into that to be sure. I am still going for Tony Bennett's autobiography, but time is the issue.

Does anyone know if the story that the author of "Eat, Pray, Love" really was paid to do these adventures and then write about them or was she spontaneous? I would really like to know. Anyone know where I could find this out?
