Elliot | 51 comments Well I am awfully behind this year, so I am going to limit my goal to just ten books for now.

My first Scottish read this year was one which I did not anticipate counting for this challenge.

1. A History Of The Czechs And Slovaks by Robert William Seton-Watson A History Of The Czechs And Slovaks by Robert William Seton-Watson Robert William Seton-Watson

It turned out that Seton-Watson was Scottish even though he was born in London. Both of this parents were Scottish, and he identified himself as a Scot throughout his life. His last years were spent on the Isle of Skye.

Incidentally, below is my review for the above book, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I plan on reading more works by Seton-Watson.

Elliot | 51 comments This year doesn't seem to be a good year for my Scottish reads, I'm afraid. I did read a second book a few weeks ago, however:

2. The Fifty-First in France by Captain Robert B. Ross The Fifty-First in France by Captain Robert B. Ross

This book consists of the memoirs of an officer in the Gordon Highlanders from May 1915 to November 1916 while he serves in France in the First World War (the author is from Scotland, and was a member of a Scottish unit).

Elliot | 51 comments 4. The Flowers of the Forest Scotland and the First World War by Trevor Royle The Flowers of the Forest: Scotland and the First World War by Trevor Royle

This book is not a military history but a wider survey which also touches on social and economic issues. I learned quite a bit, and will definitely read more from this author in the future.
