OK, first you'll notice I took yesterday's post down. That was deliberate, and I'll explain why.
Yesterday I asked about a supposed book promotion site that was using tactics that helpful folks here on Goodreads said were common among scams. But further investigation by my friend Tony Harris found they at least had the trappings of a legit outfit, so I reached out for more info.
I just had an enlightening conversation with Preditors & Editors on Facebook about this site, and they agreed we had reason to be suspicious.
When I suggested they spread the word they explained that right now that would just be free promotion for them--which makes sense. So I took yesterday's post down so I wouldn't promote them either.
Maybe they are legit! But their tactics are completely wrong if they're serious about attracting indie authors. So I'm giving them a pass, at least for now.
Just remember, legit reviewers/promoters/etc should not be:
* sending you emails BEFORE you reach out to them;
* giving you high-pressure sales tactics;
* being anything but honest & up front about what they're doing and how they're doing it.
Anything else--be careful!
PS -- Author & Book Promotions does appear to be a legitimate outfit, if a pricey one!
