Ann What books are you reading in this category? Who are some of your favorite authors?

message 2: by Leah (new)

Leah | 30 comments I'm thinking 'Every Living Thing' by James Herriot. I've read four others by him and loved them all.

message 3: by Kerri (new)

Kerri | 56 comments I'm thinking either Good Omens or Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. I've read Stardust and The Graveyard Book and loved them.

message 4: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidi28) I'm planning on Neil Gaiman as well. I plan on reading both Good Omens and The Ocean at the End of the Lane.

I've previously read Stardust and Neverwhere and enjoyed them both. (I really like the episodes he wrote for Doctor Who as well!)

Hailey Magstadt (haileymag9) | 16 comments Reading The Cuckoo's CAlling by Robert Gale (aka J.K. Rowling)

message 6: by Martta (new)

Martta (themarttaship) I'll read Sourcery by Terry Pratchett.

message 7: by Ryan (new)

Ryan (the-rybrary) I'm planning to read The Robber Bride by Margaret Atwood. She is one of my favourite writers.

message 8: by Mindy (new)

Mindy (mindyej) I've never read a book by Amy Poehler so I'll put my name on the (long) wait list at the library for her new one.

I chose one of her books too...Lost Lake; it's my favorite of her books so far!

message 12: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (librarygirl94) | 0 comments I chose "Lost Lake" by Sarah Addison Allen. I've read about four or five of her others books and really liked them all, but this one was my favorite so far!

Lost Lake by Sarah Addison Allen

Daneil Newcomb | 33 comments I'm reading Made for You by Melissa Marr. It's creepy and fantastic thus far!

message 14: by Mary Ann (new)

Mary Ann (marranni) I just finished reading Invisible by Carla Buckley. I really enjoyed it.

message 15: by Guylian (new)

Guylian Just finished "Der Autogrammhändler" by Zadie Smith, the German edition of "The Autograph Man". Liked it.

message 16: by Gabriella (new)

Gabriella I read The Slow Regard of Silent Things by Rothfuss since he is one of my favorite authors. Unfortunately I have already read all of Neil Gaiman books (and I recommend them all!) otherwise he would have been on this list :)

message 18: by Ana (new)

Ana (annie_cat) | 1 comments Hi! I just finished "The Casual vacancy" by JKRowling :D
Ive written a review if you'd like to read it - no spoilers! :)

message 19: by Ariel (new)

Ariel | 33 comments Just finished reading a Mercedes Lackey book (The Black Swan) for this, and it's the first book I've been disappointed in for the challenge. Maybe I would have been better off ordering a new (old) Diana Wynne Jones book online, but I already had this one from one of the used bookstores...

message 20: by Mpc (new)

Mpc For this prompt, I'm reading Mr Mercedes, by Stephen King!

message 21: by Jane (new)

Jane (javc) I read The Visible Man by Chuck Klosterman for this and absolutely loved it.

message 22: by Angie (new)

Angie (sparkingjoyinreading) | 32 comments I read Love on the Mend by Karen Witemeyer, which just came out. It was short but I loved it!

message 23: by MissLemon (new)

MissLemon | 3 comments Hi I'm really struggling with this prompt because if I love an author I read everything they have written! I could put Terry Pratchett s Raising Steam in which is the first book I read this year - I have put it in non human characters at the moment.

But I'm going to wait and see if doing this challenge helps me find some 'new' authors I will love and then I could put one of those in this category.

It does mean I will have to read two books by the same author which, apart from the trilogy, I didn't want to do.

Nice problem to have, I suppose. :-)

message 24: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Johnson (michellecurates) | 85 comments I had a different problem. I love to read varied authors and seldom read the same authors over and over. The few that I have, I have read them all, like Carolyn. (With a few exceptions: Jodi Picoult and Stephen King.)

So I went with Frostfire by Amanda Hocking. I've loved everything she's written, BUT THIS ONE.

message 25: by Melanie (new)

Melanie I read Swan Lake by James Lee Burke for this prompt.

message 26: by Ray (new)

Ray Jordan (rjordan1041) I'm reading "Mr. Mercedes" by Stephen King for this prompt. I should be done by tomorrow afternoon.

message 27: by Nikki (new)

Nikki I read Misbehaving by Abbi Glines for this prompt.

message 28: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lrclark83) I read First Frost by Sara Addison Allen but unfortunately I didn't enjoy it as much as some of her other books.

message 29: by Kerryann (new)

Kerryann Franklin | 61 comments I've just finished a feast for crows #4 by George R.R Martin

message 30: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Shopaholic To The Stars by Sophia Kinsella.

message 31: by Alexis (new)

Alexis O (saboknits) | 76 comments I read Go Set a Watchman, by Harper Lee and it was not even close to the book To Kill a Mockingbird is, a book that still stands strong over 50 years after it was first published.

My thoughts on GSAW

What I liked: Harper Lee has a beautiful voice and it came through very clearly in this book. It was nice to revisit Maycomb and the characters I loved. The flashback scenes were especially engaging, making it pretty clear why publishers asked Lee to focus on the childhood instead. I think the story that Lee was trying to tell was one of functioning in a world where the beliefs of the people you know are at complete odds with your own beliefs, finding peace and companionship with those individuals.

What I disliked: The story was pretty flat and dragged a bit. It feels rough to criticize a book because it is not as good as TKAM, but GSAW didn't move me in the same way. Every one of the characters seemed to have a view of the black people in the society as "simple" and there was nothing and no one in the book to challenge that view.

It doesn't make me like TKAM less. I don't think it tarnishes Harper Lee's legacy as the writer of one of the most beautiful books ever, but it doesn't contribute to it either.

Melody | 208 comments Like many of the rest of you, I read a book by Neil Gaiman, specifically The Ocean at the End of the Lane. I had never read any of Gaiman's novels before, having only read his short stories, children's books, and essays, and was very impressed. I listened to the audiobook, because I love his voice and his style, and couldn't put it down, listening to the whole book in one sitting.
