Sharman Russell (sharmanaptrussell) | 14 comments Is it okay to link here to The Guardian's list of top ten nature books of 2014? I really don't want to be inappropriate but, okay, yes, yes, I am thrilled and proud that my own book, Diary of a Citizen Scientist, published by a little university press, is in that list. Like most people, I don't like authors sneakily promoting their books. But I DO think that citizen science itself is tremendously cool and increasingly important in terms of what and how scientific research gets done. I think citizen science deserves to be celebrated. (And little university presses, these days, could use some celebration, too.)

Andree Sanborn (meeyauw) I don't know appropriate from inappropriate but I'm so glad you posted this. Congratulations and I will be reading this as soon as possible!

As long as an author states that it is their book I can't claim to mind self promotion. And I felt like suggesting it for next group read.

Sharman Russell (sharmanaptrussell) | 14 comments Thanks so much, Kristoffer. That would be wonderful, of course--just being suggested at being suggested is such a nice way for me to start off 2015!

Andree Sanborn (meeyauw) It is also the BOTM for the Nature Lit group here for January!

Sharman Russell (sharmanaptrussell) | 14 comments I'll just add here that Oregon State University Press is sponsoring a giveaway of Diary of a Citizen Scientist this January 24-February 7. Just click on the link to the book to sign up. (I think.) Also, I am doing a QA on citizen science and on the writing life and everything in between on February 3. To join that, search for Conversation with Sharman Apt Russell. Virtual cookies and tea. Diary of a Citizen Scientist: Chasing Tiger Beetles and Other New Ways of Engaging the World
