I loved the Raven Boys series and was super excited for this sequel series. Ronan was one of my absolute favorite characters, and I loved this book. That being said, for the purpose of this award and committee, I'm going to give this book a 3 out of 5. I am not sure if it is something teens would enjoy. I know it's marketed as a young adult book, but I feel like it is more relative to 20-30-year-olds. A lot is going on in this book just like there was in The Raven Boys series, and sometimes that can be hard to follow along with and confusing. I know that's how I felt in both the earlier series and this book. This book felt darker, and that's one of the reasons why I think it would be more appropriate for older young adults. I wouldn't necessarily stop a teenager from checking it out because it's a great and exciting story. However, I might make sure they read the first series because they probably are going to be a little bit confused if they hadn't.
5/5 This is a great book IF you have read The Raven Boys series. I feel like if you haven’t read them you will be lost. I don't think it should have been on the list because it would be too confusing without having read the Raven Boys.
On a personal level, I would rate this a 5/5. I love Stiefvater and LOVE The Raven Cycle.
However, I agree that this series has a more grown up feel. It's darker and deals with a completely different vibe than the companion series. This book definitely needs to be read after TRC.
