Ann What books are you reading in this category? What recommendations do you have?

The definition of antonym is "a word opposite in meaning to another. Fast is an antonym of slow."
For example "War and Peace" or "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil".

Leah | 30 comments One I own, but haven't read yet, is 'The Agony and the Ecstasy'. It's another 500+ page book, so I'm still debating lol. I am not normally put off by book length, but I'm not sure how many that length I want to take on for the challenge. Many prompts bring to mind long titles lol.

message 3: by Mindy (new)

Mindy (mindyej) Coincidentally my weeks ago reservation of "Big Little Lies" just came in at the library! :)

message 4: by Daneil (new)

Daneil Newcomb | 33 comments I created this list so I could hopefully get recommendations from others on what books would be good to read!

I read that when I was a sophomore in high school. It was 18 years ago, but I still remember enjoying it.

Jane (javc) I think I'll do Big Little Lies too.

message 19: by Catie (last edited Feb 21, 2015 03:20PM) (new)

Catie (gollywollypogs) | 13 comments I'm planning to read Little, Big too, though it would equally work for one of the "had it for ages but not got round to it" type prompts!

Miki Mackennedy | 20 comments I read Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil for this one.

message 21: by Kali (new)

message 22: by Cate (new)

Cate (catelam) | 56 comments I have also read Big Little Lies for this. I had actually never heard of the book, but I was struggling with this prompt and picked Big Little Lies simply because so many people were reading/ recommending it here. And I absolutely LOVED it! This is why this challenge is so great: this is a wonderful book that I would have probably never picked up hadn't it been for this prompt!

message 23: by Melanie (new)

Melanie I read Black & White & Dead All Over by John Darnton. Murder mystery set in a newsroom.

message 32: by Jazs (last edited May 17, 2015 04:32PM) (new)

Jazs I've already read North and South and really enjoyed that so I would definitely recommend that.

Not sure what I'm going to read for this challenge. My options I'm weighing up between so far are Voluntary Madness - Norah Vincent, Innocent Traitor - Alison Weir, Private Memoirs & Confessions Of A Justified Sinner - James Hogg, and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde - Robert Louis Stevenson. Not sure which I'm going to go with yet.

message 33: by Belinda (last edited May 19, 2015 03:31PM) (new)

Belinda (belindalt) | 99 comments There were so many books I wanted to read for this prompt, but I decided to go with Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail since I picked it up at goodwill for .99 cents.

message 34: by Melody (new)

Melody | 208 comments I've been having a lot of trouble with this one. If I read Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare do you think that would count? Technically the antonym of Nothing is Something and the antonym of Much is Little, but I was thinking maybe Nothing and Much could count as antonyms? Or is that too much of a stretch? What do you guys think?

message 35: by Jules (new)

Jules Lewis (jules_lewis) | 30 comments I stumbled across a suitable book when I had to read the sequel to The Knife of Never Letting Go, which ends on a real cliffhanger. I think I would have read The Ask and the Answer even if I couldn't have fit it to a prompt! As it turns out, it fits this prompt beautifully. For the pedants out there, the protagonist in this book speaks a slightly altered version of English and 'ask' is used as a replacement for 'question', along with its usual use as a verb.

I can't recommend these two books highly enough for mature teens -- some great writing exploring real issues in a thoughtful way. I will probably be reading the third and final book, whether it fits a prompt or not!

The Knife of Never Letting Go (Chaos Walking, #1) by Patrick Ness The Ask and the Answer (Chaos Walking, #2) by Patrick Ness Monsters of Men (Chaos Walking, #3) by Patrick Ness

Athol-mary | 16 comments I loved this trilogy. I couldn't put them down.

message 37: by Alexis (new)

Alexis O (saboknits) | 76 comments I read Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast. I wasn't really impressed. It was a quick read, but there was nothing very special about this retelling to me.

message 38: by Krista (new)

Krista I read After the Fall, Before the Fall, During the Fall by Nancy Kress. Short little work of Sci-fi.

message 39: by Book Babe (new)

Book Babe I read The Sisters Brothers It was a super quick read, and I really enjoyed it. This was a book that was definitely outside my wheelhouse so it was nice to enjoy it so much.

message 40: by Malgorzata (new)

Malgorzata (therealmadmags) | 24 comments I read Together Apart - not amazingly brilliant, but a quick and satisfying read.

message 41: by Tara (new)

Tara Bates | 1008 comments I read midnight in the garden of good and evil, that, a book I was supposed to read and the book that came out the year I was born were the toughest for me to find. Still haven't done the school one.

Michelle Johnson (michellecurates) | 85 comments A Great and Terrible Beauty was also what I booked. (Someone above picked it.) It was alright. I had a friend who loves this genre so I was glad ot pass it on to her.
