Jenn | 128 comments I'm going for 40 as my goal this year. I think it's good number for me and hopefully will keep me reading.

Jenn | 128 comments Book #1
The Next Always (Inn BoonsBoro, #1) by Nora Roberts
Finished 1/5/15

My first Nora Roberts book and I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't at all what I was expecting. I liked the characters and loved all the details about the town and the inn the main characters were working on. I laughed quite a bit and really found I was able to get completely lost in the book. I will definitely be reading the rest of this trilogy and perhaps more of Nora Roberts books in the future.

I really like Nora Roberts. Her books aren't classics but they are entertaining. She's been on a hot streak the last five years are so!

message 4: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments It's always nice when you unexpectedly find a new author you enjoy. :) It's one of my favorite parts of reading.

message 5: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #2
The Walking Dead, Vol. 05 The Best Defense by Robert Kirkman
Finished 1/6/15

Eh. Usually I love these books, even though they're darker than the show. This one just wasn't fun. It was dark and violent and not really enjoyable. Hopefully the next one will be a little better....

message 6: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 5832 comments Good luck with your challenge, Jenn! I've never read any books by Nora Roberts, but I might have to this one after reading your review.

message 7: by Lorina (new)

Lorina | 59 comments I've read the large Compendium 1 and 2 volumes of The Walking Dead and enjoyed them for the most part. I would probably continue to read only if they keep publishing the compendiums. Easier to keep track of when they are all in one book!

message 8: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #3
Annabel (Delirium, #0.5) by Lauren Oliver
Finished 1/11/15

A prequel to Delirium. A very foreboding peek into the world of Delirium. It definitely got me intrigued to read the series.

message 9: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #4

Beauty Queens by Libba Bray
Finished 1/23/15

I adored this book! It was funny and sarcastic and crazy and so many other things. I can easily see how it's a love it or hate it kind of book and luckily I fell neatly into the first camp. I can't wait to read more by Libba Bray!

message 10: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #5

That Summer by Sarah Dessen
Finished 1/30/15

This book was great. It made me laugh (and share certain paragraphs with my hostage audience) and the ending was so emotional I cried (in Starbucks..fun!) This was my first Sarah Dessen book and I was pleasantly surprised. That seems to be a theme with me this year and one I hope continues.

message 11: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #6

Gathering Blue (The Giver Quartet, #2) by Lois Lowry
Finished 2/8/15

While I liked Gathering Blue I definitely enjoyed The Giver more. I spent great portions of this book holding my breathe, terrified something horrible was going to happen certain characters. The whole society with its brutality and violence was pretty horrifying. Whereas in The Giver they covered up their cruelty with niceties in this society it was all out there in all it's horrifying glory.

message 12: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #7

Monument 14 (Monument 14, #1) by Emmy Laybourne
Finished 2/19/15

I really liked this book. It was exciting and funny and dramatic and the action just kept on coming. I liked that it seemed fairly realistic as far as what would happen in a situation like this. I really liked the characters too. I'm looking forward to the rest of the books in the trilogy and the ebooks too.

message 13: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #8

Dress Your Marines in White (Monument 14, #0.5) by Emmy Laybourne

Finished 2/20/15

So creepy and scary. A good prequel to Momument 14.

message 14: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #9

Jake and the Other Girl (Monument 14, #1.5) by Emmy Laybourne

Finished 2/27/15

Sad and scary and definitely did not endear Jake to me any.

message 15: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #10

Bumped (Bumped, #1) by Megan McCafferty

Finished 3/9/15

Ugh. I was so looking forward to this book. I didn't hate it but it was really weird and I didn't really like either of the main characters. It ended on a cliffhanger as well so that means I have to read the next book to find out what happens. I didn't hate the book but it wasn't a joy to read either. The last 100 pages or so it picked up some. My least favorite book I've read so far this year.

Jenn | 128 comments Book #11

Secret Lives of the First Ladies by Cormac O'Brien

Finished 3/13/15

This book was so interesting! I picked it up at a used booksale and really, really enjoyed it. It was informative and interesting and definitely raised my interest in a few of the first ladies. A really good read.

message 17: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #12

Sky on Fire (Monument 14, #2) by Emmy Laybourne

Finished 3/18/15

Such a good sequel. Dark and scary and still hopeful. I'm so happy because usually sequels fall flat. This one was wonderful.

message 18: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #13

What Mario Scietto Says (Monument 14, #2.5) by Emmy Laybourne

Finished 3/19/15

A nice e-book entry in the Monument 14 world. Two of my favorite characters were in the spotlight in this one so that gets a big thumbs up in my book.

message 19: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #14

Chocolate The Chocolate Lover's Guide to Complete Indulgence Bantam Library of Culinary Arts by Jill Norman

Finished 3/24/15

Very interesting, much more so than I expected. I know quite a bit more about chocolate than I did before, including it's history.

message 20: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #15

Runaways, Vol. 1 Pride and Joy (Runaways, #1) by Brian K. Vaughan

Finished 3/27/15

Fun and exciting. I loved the kids finding powers, weapons, ect. and trying to piece together what was going on. A good balance of humor and danger. I definitely want to read more.

message 21: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #16

Supernatural The Dogs of Edinburgh by Brian Wood

Finished 4/2/15

Eh. I love Supernatural and this just seemed to lack a little of the spirit of the show. It was just ok.

message 22: by Jenn (last edited Apr 13, 2015 10:45AM) (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #17

The Dead Years - ORIGINS - Book Zero (A Post-Apocalyptic Thriller) by Jeff Olah

Finished 4/9/15

Eh. Just so-so. Definitely didn't make me want to read the next book.

message 23: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #18

Anna and the French Kiss (Anna and the French Kiss, #1) by Stephanie Perkins

Finished 4/12/15

I both loved and was somewhat driven crazy by this book. There were times that certain things seemed so obvious and Anna seemed oblivious to them that it made me crazy. That aside I really enjoyed the book. I loved her learning new things about Paris, loved her friends and especially loved her different take on things when she came back to the U.S. for a visit (I could totally identify.). Over all it was enjoyable and fun. I will definitely read the next two books.

message 24: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #19

Angel and Faith vol. 1 Live Through This by Christos Gage

Finished 4/19/15

Some fun, interesting moments but not my fav in the Buffy/Angel verse. The Harmony story was my favourite.

message 25: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #20

The Madness Underneath (Shades of London, #2) by Maureen Johnson

Finished 4/26/15

I laughed so much at this book, considering it was creepy and also pretty emotional. I just love Maureen Johnson's sarcastic humor. So much of what her character's are thinking could come from my brain. I love her quotes as well. This is the second in a trilogy and I'm so intrigued by what the third will hold. Maureen Johnson is just one of my favorite all time authors.

message 26: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #21

Angel & Faith Daddy Issues (Angel & Faith, #2) by Christos Gage

Finished 4/26/15

This was a fun book. It helped that Drusilla, one of my all time favourite characters was in it. It was a much more entertaining storyline than the first and I really enjoyed it.

message 27: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #22

Runaways, Vol. 2 Teenage Wasteland (Runaways, #2) by Brian K. Vaughan

Finished 4/28/15

Loads of fun. I really like this series. The fact it's in the same universe as The Avengers is fun and I like the little mentions. The ongoing "who is the mole" question keeps you guessing too. Really enjoyable.

message 28: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #23

Lazarus, Vol. 2 Lift by Greg Rucka

Finished 5/3/15

Holy crap, this series is crazy! Intense doesn't come close to covering it. It's dark and violent and I have no idea why I love it so much but I do. Lighthearted and fluffy it's not but it draws me in and I can't wait to see what happens next.

message 29: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #24

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Freefall (Season 9, #1) by Joss Whedon

Finished 5/7/15

I enjoyed this so much more than the last few books of season 8. Definitely back on track. The Spike story was great and I love the twists and turns through out the main stories.

message 30: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #25

uVampire (iZombie #2) by Chris Roberson

Finished 5/9/15

Good and fun though I thought the first one was better. Still, it was enjoyable and I love the characters.

message 31: by Jenn (last edited May 11, 2015 02:28PM) (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #26

Night of the Living Deadpool by Cullen Bunn

Finished 5/11/15

So weird and twisted, in that signature Deadpool style.

message 32: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #27

Blue Bloods The Graphic Novel by Melissa de la Cruz

Finished 5/12/15

A really interesting story and beautiful graphics. It really held my interest.

message 33: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #28

The Woods, Vol. 1 The Arrow by James Tynion IV

Finished 5/14/15

Not my usual type of book (I almost gave up on it in the first few pages) but I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. Creepy & Mysterious.

message 34: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #29

Morning Glories, Vol. 1 For a Better Future by Nick Spencer

Finished 5/16/15

Creepy, creepy, creepy! I can't wait to see what happens next.

message 35: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #30

Morning Glories, Vol. 2 All Will Be Free by Nick Spencer

Finished 5/17/15

OK I'm officially obsessed. The writer compared the series to Lost and I can totally see that. Every answer seems to bring another question. So intriguing!

message 36: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #31

Landline by Rainbow Rowell

Finished 6/2/15

In a lot of ways this is an odd book. It's not action packed and a lot is told in flashbacks. But I laughed and cried and I really cared what happened to Georgie and Neal's relationship. (It also has one of my all time favorite book quotes.). I don't think this book is for everyone. I'm sure I did identify with Georgie (I got married at 23 as well and had no idea how much my life would change. I actually finished this book on the last day of our 18 year anniversary celebration.) I think some people won't love it or get it. But from her crazy family who love her, to her love for her husband, I really loved this book

message 37: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #32

Buffy the Vampire Slayer On Your Own (Season 9, #2) by Andrew Chambliss

Finished 6/23/15

A fun enjoyable entry in the series. I love Spike as much in these comics as I do in the show. (In Space No One Can Hear You Slay was particularly funny.). I liked the twists and turns this comic threw into the story.

message 38: by Jenn (last edited Jul 14, 2015 12:36PM) (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #33

Eve (Eve, #1) by Anna Carey

Finished 7/13/15

Parts of this book I loved (Finally a character who acts logically and takes action!) and others drug a bit. Over all I liked it and want to know the final outcome of everyone in the book, so I'll definitely be reading the rest of the trilogy.

Jenn | 128 comments Book #34

Finished 7/17/15

Sad, beautiful and moving

Jenn | 128 comments Book #35

Pretty Little Liars (Pretty Little Liars, #1) by Sara Shepard

Finished 7/22/15

I enjoyed this book so much! What a pleasant surprise. Gossipy and mysterious and soapy. So, so much fun!

message 41: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #36

The Selection (The Selection, #1) by Kiera Cass

Finished 7/28/15

What a great book! Exciting, funny and romantic. I love America, the main character and I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

message 42: by Jenn (last edited Aug 10, 2015 12:41PM) (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #37

Death of a Snob (Hamish Macbeth, #6) by M.C. Beaton

Finished 7/31/15

Usually I love this series but this was not my favorite. I did love Geordie and his "beast" of a truck though and Hamish's usual sarcasm. I laughed quite a bit and didn't figure it all out. Just not the strongest in the series.

message 43: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #38

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

Finished 8/6/15

This book tore my heart out. I literally sobbed through the last 60 pages. It was beautifully written and the characters are very real. I feel like I have been through an emotional train wreck though. So while it was wonderfully written I could never recommend it to someone as it just devastated me.

message 44: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #39

Lazarus, Vol. 3 Conclave by Greg Rucka

Finished 8/7/15

Exciting from start to finish. I loved getting to me the other Lazari in the book. Such a great series.
Read without putting it down as part of a Booktubeathon challenge.

message 45: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #40

Secrets of My Hollywood Life (Secrets of My Hollywood Life, #1) by Jen Calonita

Finished 8/17/15

This book could have been so good. But it wasn't. It was just ok. I figured out what was going to happen while all the main characters were oblivious. There were also quite a few editing mistakes which annoyed me. I know it was the authors first book so maybe her other books are better.....

I met my goal with this book! I'm excited to see how many more I can read.

message 46: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #41

The Summer I Turned Pretty (Summer, #1) by Jenny Han

Finished 8/22/15

I liked this book so, so much. I cried over it and identified with it and just loved it.

message 47: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #42

Fray by Joss Whedon

Finished 8/22/15

I actually wound up really enjoying this. The first two books were just ok but after that it got really good. I do love Joss Whedon's writing style.

Jenn | 128 comments Book #43
Morning Glories, Vol. 3 P.E. by Nick Spencer

Finished 8/24/15

This series just keeps getting better and better. The twists and turns just keep coming and I love it.

message 49: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #44

Runaways, Vol. 3 The Good Die Young (Runaways, #3) by Brian K. Vaughan

Finished 8/25/15

Finally we get some answers into why the Pride exist. A fun entry in the series.

message 50: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 128 comments Book #45

Runaways, Vol. 4 True Believers (Runaways, #4) by Brian K. Vaughan

Finished 8/31/15

I like the new direction this book takes the series in. Lots of different superheroes showing up is fun and I love the humour and drama.
