Once I finish Berlin Finale by Heinz Rein, my next physical book, also my latest real world book group choice is...

The Plague by Albert Camus

I've not read any Albert Camus for decades but recall I enjoyed The Stranger many many moons ago

Any Albert Camus fans in the group?

If anyone wants to do a buddy read of The Plague then just say the word. I'll be reading it anyway and it's always even more enriching to have a few fellow readers to discuss it with

Hugh (bodachliath) | 788 comments I haven't read any for a few years, but all of the ones I did read were good, though I can't claim to have followed much of The Myth of Sisyphus - in my view that would require a more than passing knowledge of university-level philosophy! The ones I have read were: The Plague, the Outsider, The Myth of Sisyphus, The First Man, The Fall and A Happy Death.

I might join The Plague if I can fit it in. I've only read The Stranger/Outsider and that only in the last year or two. I might even read it in French if I can get hold of a reasonably priced edition!

Wonderful news. I'll set up a thread. If you can't fit it in, or just change your mind, that's fine. I'll just post a few comments and maybe someone will join in at some point. I expect a fair few people here have read it already. It's currently riding high in the bestseller lists. I can't imagine why.

Lynaia | 468 comments I've never read anything by Camus although I am interested in his writing and I own a copy of The Fall. I may try to get a hold of a copy of The Plague and join in with a group read.

Wonderful news Lynaia

The thread is open and waiting for anyone who wants to get involved. I'm aiming to start within a week

Jan C (woeisme) | 1646 comments I was supposed to read The Plague in high school but once we got to the rats none of the girls wanted to read it, including me. It didn't seem to bother the boys but I think we moved on to another book. I still don't like to read about rats.

I was reading The Black Death until I came to a picture of a rat - I had to put a post-it over it. I could try getting back to it now.

Your choice Jan, however it would be wonderful to have you involved in the discourse

I recently read The Health of Strangers and there was a sect in the book, The Children of Camus, who were obviously inspired by The Plague. I haven't read any Camus and am, to be honest, not sure I can fit in any more buddy reads, but will be interested to read your thoughts.

Haha, Jan, I love that post-it over the scary picture!
