If you love to read, this group (along with the associated Facebook group of the same name) is a great place to find the wisdom that elder females have to share!

If you happen to be a woman of middle age or older who has a blog or some books to showcase, well then this is a place to do so!

Please post your introduction in this thread if you'd like to include a short bio here in this group, or if you'd like to introduce yourself as a reader.

Laura | 4 comments Hello to all,

I am a female writer well past middle age and have only recently got into social media, including joining the Goodreads site, because I self-published my first book on Amazon in May this year.

I'm finding it a good experience, finding friends and followers (and following others in my turn) and getting advice about issues which arise in the ongoing process of trying to promote my book 'Fairytales Don't Come True'. I've even started a blog! (available on my Author Profile page).

I read a great deal as well, obviously; books have always been a large part of my life. I still have the first book I ever bought, when I was 7 years old, 'Lorna Doone' by R D Blackmore.

I started writing about 6 or so years ago, bits and pieces at first, and then had the idea for an entire book, as shown here. A sequel is written, just needs some editing, and a third to make a trilogy is in hand.

I look forward to interacting with you all and hopefully sharing some of your books.

Best regards,

Laura Lyndhurst

Hi Toni,

Many thanks for getting in touch, and for your interest in my book. I noticed that a trend had arisen of university students (usually female) funding their degree courses by entering into sexual relationships with rich, usually much older, men. A university in the UK (Swansea, I think, but I'd have to check) even did a study on the issue.

I don't have a hangup about sex, what goes on between two consenting adults is ok by me, but it's when the consent is coerced, however subtly, that things begin to get worrying. So I had the idea to write about how what might seem like a good idea at the time could go very wrong. I based it around Hogarth's 'The Harlot's Progress' pictures, but updated it for the 21st century.

So Mags, the student whose life has gone wrong, recounts her life story to Dora, a nurse whose life is very different but who has problems of her own. I tried write it in a 'frame-tale' style, used by the 1001 Nights, and with fairy tale compenents, hence the title (and there's a bit about that on my blog, on my profile page).

How about yours?

Regards,

Laura

Jane Wood | 5 comments Hi everyone,
Just joined this group. My name is Jane Wood, and I am a Goodreads author. I am married with two grown-up sons.
Well I do fit the category of your older female writer, though I do not feel my age thankfully, and better still the old brain cogs are still firing on all cylinders.
This sounds a marvellous group to be apart of and I look forward to making new friends and having the chance to chat to fellow authors and readers.
I love to read most genres, though romance novels not so much.
May I present my debut novel: “GoldenEars: The Whispering Mountain.” Part one. Categories, Fantasy/Mystery/Adventure. Upper middle grade, to young adults. Although I have some lovely reviews from mature readers who have said they loved it.
Here is a brief synopsis of the story.
Set in Canada 1972. The story focuses on our pack of grey wolves, and their struggle to survive amid the forests. A story about friendship and trust. When Edmund 16, discovers the injured little body of a wolf pup, barely 4 months old, he rescues the pup and cares for him. Their union sets their lives on a new course; together they must overcome, dangers, heartache and treachery; testing their friendship to the limit. The link to my book.
https://www.amazon.com/GoldenEars-Whi...
In paperback and ebook format. Plus other websites. Please feel free to check it out. Thanks for reading my post. Find me and my blog on my Goodreads author page, Jane H Wood.

Welcome to the group, Jane!

I'm not feeling my age, either, other than the effects of covid.

I was twelve in 1972 and lived in an old Victorian in Surrey, BC. I had a pony, and my mom ran a small alternative school in our downstairs. Among the happy memories of those days are the views of Golden Ears.

Your book sounds fantastic. What a cool thing to write about. My fantasy novel features grey wolves, also, but I imagine my story is much more "out there," so to speak.

If you use Facebook at all, you might be interested in our group there, and also the associated directory. I'm so thankful though, that you've joined this group on Goodreads, as I'm hoping it will grow!

The best of luck to you! We are happy to have you here.

Jane Wood | 5 comments Thank you H.A, for your kind welcome to the group.
I was 21.
I have an author page on Facebook. Find me on JanehWood16

Thank you, I have found your Crones with Pens, group on Facebook and requested to join you.
How fantastic that you are writing about wolves too. I would love to know the title of your book. What was your inspiration for your story?
Perhaps we can chat again. Best of luck to you too. Jane.

Great! I've requested to be a friend for your author page. It's fun getting to know other authors, and their histories, from around the world. For me, this is turning out to be the best part of writing, aside from sharing my art.
Here is a link to my website, which tells about me and about my story Aru's Realm. https://habyrd.com/
I also have a FB author page, and I'd love it if you'd check it out because it doesn't get much traffic! : ) I'm a slow learner when it comes to publicity, apparently. https://www.facebook.com/ArusRealm/
I look forward to interacting with you here and on our pages!
(My pen name is H. A. Byrd, my actual name is Catherine Wesley.)

Jane Wood | 5 comments Hi H.A.
Aru’s Realm, looks interesting.

I haven’t noticed your friend request pop up on my Facebook page as yet. Here is the link, which should help.

Thank you, Jane.

Aru's Realm is definitely different! Old-fashioned in some ways, but written with modern awareness. It reminds people of The Wizard of Oz, The Hobbit, and Animal Farm!

You have my friendship to your page now, though. Right? On my end I received confirmation yesterday. FB can be a little strange.

edit: Jane, by the way: Maybe add Golden Ears to this group's Bookshelf (see bottom of main group page.) I have Golden Ears on my TBR list.

Jane Wood | 5 comments Thanks H.A. It’s sometimes hard and time consuming to keep up with all the different groups on here.
Yes I have your book Aru’s Realm on my TBR list also.

Joyce Reynolds-Ward (joycereynoldsward) | 1 comments Hi! Saw the post on the Facebook group and wandered over here. 63 years old, writer of science fiction and fantasy. Current series is The Martiniere Legacy, near-future science fiction agripunk corporate soap opera featuring a really, REALLY powerful and dysfunctional family, with Northeastern Oregon settings. Think Dallas meets Longmire in the future. Only instead of energy companies, it's all about agricultural technology, mind control, and indentured labor.
Preorders now available for the latest book, BROKEN ANGEL: THE LOST YEARS OF GABRIEL MARTINIERE, release date April 25, 2021. Contact me if you want an ARC for review.

Jane Wood | 5 comments Hi everyone,
I just noticed that I have not added my second book here on your fabulous group. This is book 2 and follows Edmund on his quest to find his beloved wolf GoldenEars. The book is a great read for teens, young adults to new adult audiences. Intriguing, with fantasy and supernatural themes. A delight for the heart and mind. Follow the link:

Hi everyone. My name is Barbara Martinez. I live in a small town in central Florida with my husband and four cats.

I like what the lady in the TV commercial says that age is just a number, and mine is unlisted. However, I'm certainly well within the age parameters of the group and look forward to talking and exchanging thoughts and ideas with you.

I recently published my novel, A Disloyal Element, on Amazon Kindle. It took about 9 months to birth it, I mean write it, and I've been raising it, I mean revising it, ever since for about a total of 7 years. I finally got the nerve up to publish it. It's historical fiction with elements of suspense, set in Richmond, Virginia during the Civil War. There's romance but it's not the sole focus of the story. I'll include the link here -https://www.amazon.com/Disloyal-Eleme...

I look forward to talking with you.

Hi Toni. I'm still learning the ropes of Goodreads. There's more to it than meets the eye. I imagine I will make a lot of mistakes.
