Kim (flychickadee) | 15 comments Hi Lorna-

I don't have the books yet, approx how long are each of the chapters?

Dan The Penguin Buss translation is 1135 pages, almost exactly an average of 10 per chapter. ( My Barnes and Noble hardcover edition (original 1846 translation to English, comes in at around 800 pages (unabridged").

Based on my (pretty limited) knowledge of the book, it is an "easy" read, an adventure novel my library recommends for Ages 12 and Up.

8 chapters a week will get us through in 14-15 weeks. 80 pages a week is a little more than is customary in this group but gets it done in a more or less quarterly timeframe.

Kim (flychickadee) | 15 comments I'm just finishing grad school (and sooooooo behind in 1Q84), but the description of the reading schedule sounds doable to me once I've graduated on May 11!

Thank you :D

Good to know that it took about 2.5 hours for you to do 7 chapters. That's definitely doable.

What are you sewing? That's one of my other favorite activities!

If you divide Kindle numbers by 16 you get a pretty good page equivalent.

Kim (flychickadee) | 15 comments UGH.

I'm still reading... slowly (so very behind).

I live about 1/2 a mile from where the George Floyd murder was, and we were evacuated from our apartment complex due to the riots (gas/electric was shut off and there was very minimal cell service). I forgot to grab Monte Cristo in the rush out.

This weekend our building was literally struck by lightning and we have no HVAC, internet, phones, etc loll (laughing because crying is the other option). Dealing with the fact that I just graduated with my masters and have a lot of job interviews (via zoom. because covid) and having to reschedule all of those, while trying not to melt in this building.

I needed to complain somewhere (sorry), because, ultamately what I've dealt with is so small compared to what the world is dealing with right now. But also... I voted for Monte Cristo, if I don't catch up by the time the poll is up for the next book, am I allowed to vote for the next read?

*k

Laurel Bradshaw (llawryf) | 40 comments Another Minnesotan here. Good luck with your job interviews. I lived on Powderhorn Park for 11 years. Now I'm in Cologne. My project this year is War and Peace, and yes, I'm WAY behind...

Anne | 137 comments I also live in the Twin Cities, and I'm way behind too. I live about 5 miles away from the site, so it was quieter where I am. My problem was lack of focus, not lack of access to my book. I'm on chapter 18 or 19, so it won't be easy to catch up with everyone else.

Good luck on the interviews!

Great idea-- thank you!

And I had no clue there were so many MN people in this group :D
Maybe after COVID we can have a meetup?
