This is a GREAT idea. So, I thought I would follow this just to read something different this year and so I am 'borrowing' your list. I usually stick to series since I'm addicted to series books when I find an author I like. I'll see how far I get using these categories.
I have a question on " HARD BOILED". I'm pretty sure that won't be a cookbook. So what do YOU envision as a 'hard boiled' book in this category?

Nyssa | 2023 comments 1. Yay!! Welcome! Borrow away! :) You may also want to take a look at some of the categories other members have added to their lists as well (I borrowed some but not all of them). New suggestions are added to the bottom of the post. The "I'll Try Anything Once" Challenge - Discussion Thread

2. Hard Boiled is a subgenre of Mystery; and more specifically Detective stories.
A prime example would be: The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett - basically it's hard core, crime, detective novels. While I've seen it used mostly for older crime novels, Harry Dresden is also considered "Hard Boiled", especially in the earlier books. Here are some of the suggestions made by GoodReads: Hard Boiled.

I'm happy you will be trying this challenge as well! :) Best wishes for 2015!!

Spacechik | 47 comments OH, excellent. I already do read Lee Childs and Jim Butcher. Dashiell Hammett I have on my Kindle. Dang, and I just finished the current graphic novel by Jim Butcher (Ghoul Goblin). Would have been two categories at once... Raymond Chandler is also a favorite of mine. Great choices. Thanks. Best to you and your 2015.
